How do I make a skill where the user can throw a weapon from the inventory like in Final Fantasy III? I want the item window to come up and let you select a weapon. Then it gets thrown at the enemy, doing X amount of damage and making you lose that weapon forever.

Do I need scripts for this?

Thanks!

Um, yeah, that would require a script. A very serious one I would think, as it would involve getting the menu of items up and running... Anyway, if you don't know how to script, I'd steer clear of this one. Just my opinion, (never used RMXP.)

Windows aren't excactly "serious scripting" but if you want a windows, yes, psy_wombats is right. But you could event this with the "show choices" command, then choosing if you wish to continue to your normal turn and-- no, forgot it, even the eventing would have to be serious. I'll take a look at it if you really want me too though ;) I'm really in the eventing mood!
I wonder how many of my-reps are there for a reason, and not just because some jackass wanted to show off in front of some other jackasses...?
Probably a lot of them - and those people sure as hell don't deserve my pity, let alone my disgust.

Jeez, I just now thought about the eventing it would take to make a throw skill, and it's HUGE! The only way I can think of to do it is to use a bunch of conditional branches and "show choices" commands, and you would have to make a bunch of "show choices" commands for every possible combination of weapons in the game (except for the order they're in in the inventory).

Thanks for the help though, I might request a script if I feel like I need the throw skill in my game.

Yeah, but you can still make a throw skill for an ABS/ATB. I made a projectile system with events, maybe you could edit it (check the event system mega pack - link is in my sig)?

Good questions. Anyways, the Blizz ABS (which you will not be able to get on .net any longer) has an implemented throwing system I believe. If it's an ABS you want, check out his, or use parts of it (though I'm not sure the Creative Commons license thingie allows that...).

I want to use the default battle system or an atb system (a la FFIV). And I want the third option Kipe gave.

Sorry I took so long to reply; I completely forgot about this thread.
