Agreed. While in summer I try to cut weight, I'm a fairly large individual and can never seem to drop below 210 lbs. (95kg) at my lightest ever, not counting when i was depressed and stopped eating altogether. Forgot about that... Currently I weigh 275 lbs. (125 kg) at 29% body fat. Ideal? No. But I can carry another firefighter in full gear out of a structure fire on my shoulder and compete in the ameteur sparring ring. Good enough for this old man.
For a lot of males, weight is equated to muscle mass. It doesn't always work out that way; for example, in tournament MMA (which I would be a fool to attempt at my age) I'd compete at super heavyweight class because of my weight alone. Since most competitors at my weight class are less than 10% body fat, it means they are much stronger than me, pound for pound, and probably in better cardiovascular health as well. Still, even though I'd probably get made into applesauce, it would be after my opponent second-guessed his decision to challenge me. Again, good enough for me.
