Yeah, the battle system is sorta outdated. How if you chose when starting the RPG Maker for the first time with a new project, it asks you:
What kind of RPG do you want to do?
1. Action RPG
2. ATB RPG
3. Classical RPG
4. Tactical RPG
5. RTS or TBS
Do you want animated battlers?
yes / no

And everyone would be happy. :D (\s/)

There was a very similar discussion right before Ace came out. I'm sure they're probably working on something, but we likely won't know until it's close to being released.

I think it'd be cool if they implemented some more advanced eventing options.

I'm sure they're probably working on something, but we likely won't know until it's close to being released.

At the moment they work on mobil support of RPG Maker VX ACE. I would appriciate more to improve Ace instead of making a mobile version, which maybe only use 5% of the people. :/

I think allmost everything is allready possible with eventing. ;)

Well, just as an example, they removed the ability to reference variables through other variables, which you could do in 2k3. It's pretty easy to do with script calls, but it'd be cool if there were an actual event option.

I'm aware that pretty much everything you could possibly want to do in the realm of 2D RPGs has already been done in some way, shape, or form by the fan community. The only thing they could really improve at this point is to make things easier to customize for people that don't know RGSS. They could make the mapping better, but it would be at the cost of some ease of use for beginners.

Well the only thing coming to my mind would be to let us change and customize the low level engine stuff.
There's a lot of things people can't change because you can't directly affect the rendering engine, only apply effects over it.
Things like mode 7 and filters/shaders would be possible.

Some things are actually possible. I found an mode 7 script and also a high res script. ;)
Anisotropic Filtering would have no effect on 2D graphics. They could only implement Anti Aliasing methods.
