5 Years prior to the events of the story, there was a huge war. The war was built up over the years when there was a great need for money, for territory control. The great country of Ghistall needed help controlling it's own people, what made the people of Ghistall riot against it's own country is a mystery. The mysterious country of Muraldin, which has a confusing and secret political back story, sent it's own troops to help control Ghistall. The war broke out into chaos when the King of Rukhulda was assassinated by a secret organization. The events of the war soon became too confusing that everybody not involved stopped caring and became almost like a fairy tale to them. However for those with family members fighting in the war, it's a time of great melancholy and uncertainty.
5 Years later, the war is still going on with people going on with their daily lives. Arabella is a over emotional and caring young farmer who's father is fighting the war. She lives with Syferness, her younger sibling who's very talented with the piano and curious about many thing but is yet very shy, and her loving and caring mother. They live in the small forest town, Rustrub Village of Muraldin. One night Arabella hears Syferness talking to what appears to be the spirit of their Father, Franz who died in the war. Arabella becomes suspicious of the event. The next day, Arabella and Syferness visit their close friend, Maxwell who just became old enough to enlist in the Royal Army. Maxwell is hoping to move up the ranks so he could one day have greater political influence over the war, he is an idealistic young man with a somewhat childish point of view on the way the world works but he takes his ideals very seriously. He wants to put an end to all wars in the future.
The night Arabella has fateful dream. A spirit named Tchamorkus who comes from a planet that specializes in Spiritual Science where the entire population is elves, Tchamorkus is trapped inside a black hole, from there she can contact other worlds through people's dreams by using a Spirit Network device similar to a laptop and a virtual reality head-set. Tchamorkus makes a deal with Arabella. Tchamorkus will give Arabella her power if Tchamorkus can use her body to release her soul from her body and roam the planet to explore. Tchamorkus reveals to Arabella that she is running away from the afterlife because she is afraid. Her religion believes that Spiritual Science is a unforgivable abomination to the rules of life and all who practice it will die in eternal suffering. Many people who practice Spiritual Science remove their souls from their body and spend their entire lives roaming the galaxy hiding in black holes and finding different universes where they can feel safe with the rules of the universe. Arabella agrees to her conditions. Arabella's body releases Tchamorkus's soul and in return Arabella receives Tchamorkus's Spiritual Power along with her power Arabella gained the power to hear and have conversations with other Spirits.
The following week Arabella and her family decide to take a visit the City of Barladeen to shop and stay in the Hotel. On their trip to the market things get busy, Syferness has been getting a lot of dirty looks from some people. Arabella's Mother decided it was time to go when an Elf has been found murdered in a back alley, Syferness wonders why she is the only Elf in the family, Arabella's Mother unwillingly reveals to Syferness that she was adopted. The day after another Elf was murdered, Arabella's Mother decides it's too unsafe for Syferness to stay here and they all travel through Melancholy Forest where they were attacked by a Demon, a Mucklock. Arabella and Syferness fights with the Mucklock, but Syferness's hands where injured in the fight. They go to the doctors, the doctor revealed that a bone in her hand is broken. Syferness goes into a deep depression where she thinks negatively about humanity and racism, and over bearing sorrow about not having to play the piano ever again. Arabella's Mother also goes into depression about not having the courage to protect Syferness. That evening, Maxwell says goodbye to Arabella and leaves to join the Military. Arabella feels lonely and ashamed about not feeling sorry as she does about everyone, she starts to wonder if her kindness and friendliness is just an act to keep an image. A confusing and self-indulgent pattern of thoughts starts to fill her mind. "You are selfish." "Don't you care about Syferness? About your father going to war? He is probably dead." "Why are you worrying about yourself when everyone around you is suffering?" Arabella falls into depression.
That night Arabella over hears another conversation between Syferness and the spirit of Franz. Franz tells Syferness that all of humanity has some form a hatred living inside of them. He continues to speak negatively of humanity to Syferness. He makes a deal with Syferness saying that if Syferness should ever die, that Franz will take over Syferness's body and continue living as her in disguise, in return, Franz will use his Spiritual Power to heal Syferness's hands so that she may one day make a living playing the piano. The next morning Syferness's hands are healed. Arabella tells her Mother about what happened last night, Arabella's Mother slapped her and told her not to make a mockery of Syferness's miracle. Arabella spends the rest of the day in her room while Arabella's Mother cries in her room as the depression grows deeper in Arabella until she starts harboring suicidal thoughts.
That night, Arabella has a dream about a strange empty room where she sits across from a strange child. The child doesn't reveal his name even when asked but he does say he was around even since the creation of all existence and time. He reveals that he remembers all even his conscious before the creation of existence and time and has a theory that all people were conscious of thought even before birth. He finds Arabella's emotional reactions very intriguing. Unlike Tchamorkus, This mysterious boy is not a spirit he reveals, he is not sure what he is however he reveals that he is playing some sort of mind game with another one like him where he has to kill the host of whoever is harboring his opponents spirit. He reveals that the host is a serial killer named Bludbigen and the person who is hosting him is a person who enjoys killing like it's a game. The people like the mysterious young boy are a type of people who spend eternity just watching life through their host's eyes and occasionally talking the host through dreams. There aren't many like him in this world, he says. He explains the rules of his life. Once their host dies they will spend some time in dark space, a whole universe of seemingly nothing until they feel some sort of warm tingle all over their body, that's their signal to find a bright light and fly towards it. Once there, they will meet their host for the first time. The host will then decide wither or not they want this person to stay inside their mind, if so the person will than watch life through their eyes while staying making themselves at home. The person can grant the Host their power if they choose to.
The mysterious young boy says he once fell in love with his last host until Bludbigen killed his host. The last thing of his last Hosts memory was gazing into Bludbigen's eyess. He saw his opponent. He reveals that the opponent was his brother who he has remembered when they shared the same host together, the host of a Cave-woman back in prehistoric times. His brother talked the Cave-woman into murdering another one of her kind, ever since then the mysterious boy swore his existence to spending eternity playing this game with his brother. Using the host to kill each other. He using his host to kill his opponents host so that he may one day seize his mass murders. Arabella agrees to help him find Bludbigen so that she may find herself doing a useful cause.
The next day a detective drops in for a visit, his name is Irving R. Wolfen. Irving tells Arabella that he has a person living in his thoughts too, He calls the people MindScapes. They combine the Soul with their own Souls becoming a part of you until the host dies. His MindScape can sense other MindScapes and can pin-point the exact location other MindScapes. MindScapes experience emotions differently than other MindScapes, they feed off the emotions of their hosts, MindScapes emotions feel differently as human emotions, it's unexplainable how emotions feel for them. As children their MindScapes take the form of Imaginary friends until they are long forgotten as a fragment of their imagination and dreams. If a MindScape meets their host as an adult, they stay longer in their memories as adults have a more structured mind in most cases, but their minds are still developing.
Irving R. Wolfen accepted his MindScape as she helps him solve cases. Irving R. Wolfen wants Arabella to join him on his case as she is involved, Arabella gladly accept.
And so the journey begins....
