So I was sending some anime to a friend of mine via megaupload. It's supposed to have dual languages with optional subtitles. I was able to view it in English or Japanese, with or without the subtitles, on VLC media player just fine. But for some reason when he got it, he couldn't turn the subtitles off. They were grayed out.

Why? And how do I fix this problem?

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0FOUJDO6 <--- the anime episode he viewed. I can take the subtitles off, but he can't, and we're both using the same program.

If they're hardcoded, then you're screwed. If not, go to video > subtitles > disable. Really, how is that hard?

Not hard at all. =_= Like I said, the option was grayed out for my friend, but not for me. I was able to remove it, but he wasn't.

It turns out the problem was VLC media player. He needed the latest version. Once he did that, he was able to remove the subtitles no problem.
