I had mine plugged into my computer for a few months until I started playing CoD4 again. If you mean through an mp3 player you just plug the green cable into the headphone jack but you still need to power it via usb.

No, I use it as my 360 headset (It is the 360 version) so you can't listen to music through them while playing it.

EDIT: Oh wait, it isn't a Turtle Beach, it is just designed like one, but with the plug for 360 headset jacks.
