as resident muse fanboy i'll have to advise that follow me is only kind of alright if you're in to that kind of stuff, and it is the worst single off the album. the 2nd law is one of their weaker albums, not as bad as drones, but it still has some great music in there. if you want to relive some of the most exciting rock music of 2012, listen to Supremacy and Survival, which both have fantastic orchestral writing and usage of extended instrumentation. Supremacy feels like an abandoned Bond theme, and it's glorious. as for electronic music and pop, Madness is my pick of the album. it was wildly successful, and for good reason. it's catchy and simple and it's charming and passionate. Unsustainable is an interesting experiment in rock-dub fusion, with some more brilliant orchestra usage, if not too repetitive. Animals is interesting if only for its 5/4 meter and E flat minor tonality, both equally unusual for a rock song.

however the best track on the album is quite easily the closer, Isolated System, which pivots around a simple and ambiguous ostinato to create a feeling of overwhelming change and loss, and perfectly portrays the message Bellamy wished to make with this album. Isolated System always leaves me with a twisted face, which is remarkable for an instrumental on a rock album.
but the most fun track is definitely Panic Station. it's Prince and Queen style groove, nonsense lyrics, and honestly the most fun song they've put out since 2006's Knights of Cydonia, although they're in completely different styles.

the 2nd law is actually an pretty solid album, with some fantastic songs on either end. its flaws lie in the overly pop-style filler songs in between, which have never been the band's strong suit. Big Freeze, Follow Me and Explorers are alright songs that don't serve much of a purpose or carry much weight. if you choose to listen to the 2nd law, i recommend you skip at least Explorers, and maybe Follow Me and Unsustainable if you can't deal with dub-club-bass wub-wubs in your rock song. Save Me and Liquid State are both interesting songs, and it's refreshing to hear Chris' voice and his struggle with alcoholism. i do wish they'd put them in the middle of the album, though.
i know nobody cares about my thoughts on the 2nd law, but this was fun to write ^_^

anyway, here's the best Muse song. i love it. it is perfect.
