i don't remember any hate actually. i've only ever seen people praising the series for some reason.

I remember it getting hate for being a shooter in a market totally saturated by shooters, though that's not really halo's fault.

I would venture to guess that Halo is one of the primary reasons for the popularity of console shooters. I mean, Goldeneye was the first big hit, but the genre itself kind of exploded after Halo:CE released with the Xbox.
