Okay, everyone has their own topic, and it makes it really easy for your stuff to get buried when things get posted. In order to stimulate better flow of constructive criticism, I've made this topic and stickied it. Just post your work, and do your best to give helpful insight to the posts before you.

This is a topic that you can necropost.

I'll kick things off with this.

I was playing Mega Man IV, and I got to the wily stages when a pretty groovy chip tune started playing. It was a little uncharacteristic of Mega Man games up until that point, in that it went in a different sort of direction musically. So I decided to arrange it on a whim, and in about a day total I came out with this. I'd call it finished, other than tweaks and adjustments. What do you all think?

If the RMRK MP3 player still isn't working properly, you can click here.

Isn't this the whole point of having an auditorium? So we don't need a thread like this?

Arrow

This is more of a work in progress thread- I have something finished up there I know, but this is a place where you can just post snippits of things as well. Also, like I said, things tend to get buried and songs / topics get ignored, which can be a bit discouraging I think. If there are a bunch of different things in the same topic, people are more likely to see a wider variety of artists / songs, and through that convenience, more likely to listen / post.

Holkeye

I guess. I'm not buying it, but its worth a shot.

Arrow

Try to think of it as the musical equivalent of the screenshot thread. Everyone has their own game topic, for the most part, but in that thread you can say "Hey, look at this map" or, "Is this tile set funky?"

Acolyte

I like the song. It's very catchy and upbeat. ^^

Japur

Yes, it's very catchy indeed. Like the 8-bit style.

This topic is just what I needed! What do you guys think of this little sample I wrote? It's for an iPhone game I'm working on.

I have two versions, actually. The first one is a version with the wistle as a lead instrument, the second with an acoustic nylon guitar. Which one is better?

Awesome, awesome work, Arrow. I like the Rush-like sound around 1:30 in particular, it's overall wonderful.

I really liked working with the Mega Man 7 samples, they work really well together and they can be pretty damn versatile. Thanks, guys.

Japur: Both sound good. It's weird how much change that one instrument seems to have on the song. I listen to the one with the whistle, I think of the original Paper Mario on the 64. When I listen to the one with the guitar, all I can see is Harvest Moon. Like I said, both sound good, just go with the one you like more.

This is the Opening to Divided Infinity, the game I'm currently directing,
Written and Sung by Diana Kantor

EDIT: How to I actually embed the song in the thread? =o

MetalRenard

The music is good, well produced etc. What needs work is the vocal track. The singing is perfect, she's excellent, do her voice justice with proper production work, make sure the voice sounds as pro as the music!

@Arrow  Your variations of Mega Man sound very Mega Man to me.  Maybe with a stronger kick.

@Japur I like the whistle one the best.  This is a perfect song for one to whistle while they work. ;)

@Madurai  I think you could right click get link and then do this bracketmp3brackethttp://hosting_site.com/my_song.mp3 bracket/mp3bracket

Edited because no one is responding.
coming soon to a pc near you

Japur

I've reconstructed my old song, I think it's more catchy now. It's not done though, actually far from done: sometimes the rythm doesn't seem to be right.

What do you guys think of the instruments?

I have exceedingly little talent with music, but messing around with Finale I was able to put this together. It's just a start of something, but I'm not exactly sure what I should do to improve on it.

This is my first try at anything even remotely electronic. I think I've done a pretty good job of it :O
And yeah, it's for RM's, so it is supposed to loop. I'd say probably for intense scenes or a common battle, maybe even a boss battle if it suits.

And the second one is a toccata. It's supposed to loop as well. I like it. I hope you do too.
it's like a metaphor or something i don't know

I see Tech being a decent battle theme, more than anything else. A bit short for a boss theme, really, and a bit cheerier than I would typically associate with a more difficult battle.

That said, I like it a lot. It rolls through the different sections very smoothly. I will say though that I think it could be helped by a bit more length.

Toccata...wasn't bad, but I was bored. It sounded technically sound, but it didn't have anything to it other than that sort of generic rpg feeling. Also...the muted trumpets made me giggle a bit. Again, not bad, but doesn't stand out, in my opinion. THAT SAID:

RPG Maker intended, meant to loop, tell me what you think. Arranged off of a stage theme from mega man zero 4. Consider this the bare bones... any ideas for making it more unique from the original product would be very welcome.

Would it help if I said pretty please?
