Mack Sprite Shadows

A number of you are probably familiar with the sprites on this site: http://www.tekepon.net/fsm/modules/refmap/index.php?mode=vx-chara

But, the shadows in the sprite are a pain in the ass. The shadows are straight black, meaning you can't just use the VX semi-transparency option on it without screwing up everything else that uses black, and it's near impossible for me to manually edit out the shadows because I can't tell what parts are the shadow and what belong to the character himself. Does anyone know if there are edits out there for more transparent shadows, or perhaps no shadows at all?
