Let's repost this again since the first one got lost. ;-;

I've recently moved back home from college. But when I set my computer back up, I noticed a big problem. The computer will load up the BIOS and everything, but then right before it would go to the Windows XP splash screen with the blue loading bar, the screen would go black for a few moments before just restarting the system completely again. Safe mode does the same thing once I've selected the OS, so I can't get into my computer that way either. There's no blue screen of death or anything (I disabled the option to restart on system failure), but I've tried just about everything I know. I've tried replacing the Kernel32 file, doing a CHKDSK, letting Windows do an automatic repair from the CD, but still nothing is working.

I'm lucky that I at least have everything pretty recently backed up on an external hard drive, but it does me little good if I don't have a working computer to use my stuff on. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be or how to sort this out?

To point out, I've tried:

  • Going into safe mode.
  • Checking that all of the cables are properly connected.
  • Booting from my Windows XP CD.
  • Using CHKDSK at the command prompt.
  • Using my Windows CD to do an automatic repair.
  • Checking my CMOS to make sure the information is correct.
  • Resetting my CMOS by restoring it to default values and temporarily removing the battery.

Yet it still does a restart loop right after "Verifying DMI Pool Data.........".

Screw it, I'm reformatting. I've got almost everything backed up anyways, save for Portal and a few pictures.
