What. The battles are exactly the same as IV, V, VI, VII, IX. The only difference between all of those games are the magic/skill learning system. How are the battles a big achievement when it's the same thing that came before it? Only worse.

This is a really bad argument. The battle mechanics in Final Fantasy really didn't change much until X. However, I do like FFVII a lot more than FFVI. FFVI is overrated, really.

Compared to now, duh. Compared to what they had then, that was pretty cool stuff. And my argument is that it's good for that time period. I mean, sure, they could have done better than make Cloud's hands look like Barret's in that they look like they're just barrels of guns, but yeah.

I get what you're saying about the leap from 2D to 3D, but it was pretty shoddy. I prefer the older Final Fantasy games. I never got a copy of FFIV that worked, FFX's voice acting annoyed the living hell out of me, and I could never get into FFXI. FFXII...it's all right. It didn't feel like Final Fantasy though.

No, FFVII is not a better game than FFVI because it has battles in 3D. FFVII is not a better game than FFVI because you can view these 3D battles from different angles. Neither of these things were technical marvels/revolutionary/groundbreaking at the time. Neither of these things were the reason why people loved FFVII either. Holy shit! This is the best game ever! I can view the same boring battles from IV, V and VI, but this time from different camera angles! None of your arguments make any sense at all. I just really don't get how you can believe something so ridiculous.

I do like FFVII more than FFVI, though. FFVI is very, very dull. FFIV was by far the best 2D FF.

Awesome to hear. Believe me, with the amount of amazing (underrated) games for the Gamecube, you won't be bored for a while. Also since the games are dirt cheap now, you could get a lot of them for great prices.

Oh and I have a (genuine) copy of Phantasy Star Online Episode III if you want to have it, I don't mind sending it over since I have a backup of it anyway. :X

So yeah. This thread made me realize that I want a GCN really bad. I went on Craigslist and found one for $25. I also happened to find a place that sells 8gb ProDuo cards for $10 each, so I bought 3 of those.

Image your games and play them on Dolphin only thing is you pretty much need a 360 controller or you're screwed. (Only reason our two gamecubes still get used)

Super Mario Sunshine, while nowhere near the best Mario game, is one of the best games of the console. The entire game took a fun concept, as far as I know only used extensively on PC, and made it genuinely unique. The game was colorful, challenging and most of all, Mario.

The best underrated game of both this, and last generation is gotta be Eternal Darkness, and I'm going mad trying to figure out why nobody has mentioned it.
It is, without a doubt, the only game that has truly scared me beyond the cheap Wall Demon scares of most games Survival Horrors.
The story is magnificent, the characters show some really decent emotion and the way they tie together is relatively well done. The combat is pretty good, but the magic is where the game really shines.

This is my list of games you should buy, with the exception of MP, I'll add different games because you should pick up every game everyone else suggested.

Oh, definitely pick up Skies of Arcadia. Never played the GC version, but I was all over the DC version.

Eternal Darkness got boring fast. You know when everything "scary" will happen since they just plain outright show you your own sanity status. I completed the game 3 times (with each guardian to get the mantarok ending) and never touched it again. Meh.

Basically it was nintendo's answer to the comments that they're kiddy focused. Have you SEEN a gamecube controller?.
