For your guitar to be the cause of broken strings? So far, an E-string from an set of Elixir strings broke within a month. Now, a new set. G-string breaks in a week. Is a guitar able to be the cause of this?

Stop playing it while wearing your

tSwitch

stop over tightening your strings and stop strumming so hard.

Are they breaking in the same place?

Moss.

There might be string shavings left over from previous strings in the notches where the strings goes through at the head and bridge of the guitar. Clean those out with something.

I'm not over-tightening. I always tune down but I never tune above standard. Why would I? >_> I have a capo. ALSO, IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE FREAKIN' WEATHER. Musta been really cold or w/e because it became out of tune and then yeah. But the strings, especially since they're new, should have been able to handle a bit.

Yeah, basically the hole where you slide the string into the tuner.

I'll try that.

Maybe you are wrapping them in the head too tightly?

If by "into the tuner" you mean the tuning pegs, I'd say the edges are too sharp on the pegs. Soften them down somehow. I'm not sure how, to be honest; I'd consider taking it in to a guitar shop somewhere.

Perhaps you have tightened them too tight?
Hi

Holkeye

How many people are going to say that he winds them too tight, after he already said that he doesn't?

Kathryn

I'm going with the "tuned too tight" thing as well, although if it's in the same place there might just be a problem.

But honestly, you could just be tuning it incorrectly. I had that problem for a while...*stares off into space*

Although, you know, I wasn't ever taught that by a person anyways ._O

Yeah, that's what I meant. :P And I'll talk to my dad about taking it into a guitar shop somewhere.

Holkeye

I wonder if ruling the neck is anything like working the shaft.

SirJackRex

I'd say they're too tightly wound at the head and possibly sharp...I change mine myself and have never had that problem.
Take it to a guitar shop and have them put the strings on and see if they break. If they do, go to a guitar maker/repair and have him take a look.
You could try a different brand...but it's unlikely that that's the cause.

You could try a piece of highish grit sand paper, high grit shouldn't cosmetically damage or do damage to the guitar. Just enough to make it slightly round. I wouldn't do it though, it's always better to have a pro do it not to mention cheaper than a new guitar.
