Xenomic

For those who do not know this project, it is a game that I have been working on for the past 4 years almost solo (I've had some help here and there, and I appreciate the help from the many folks that has helped). Take heed that I've done no graphics or music myself, the sources vary. I am always looking for more help with this as well~

Feel free to leave feedback on the game and ideas/criticisms~

First review: http://rpgmaker.net/games/3758/reviews/1826/

Current version (1.121): http://www.mediafire.com/download/ka77ce9hkpo2lj5/Touhou_Fantasy_Version_1.121.rar

Please make sure to get this as well and unzip in the Facesets folder. There are some missing files that'll crash the game without them: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hyh85nd4z6elfl7/FaceSet.rar

Music: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/0nw7t9lzue4y8/Touhou_Fantasy_Music_Packs

*NOTE! If you only want the base music, get just the Vanilla Music packs and the Theme of Components found in the subfolder. If you want all the music, get everything. For all music files, place it in a folder named Music in the Touhou Fantasy directory.

Keep in mind that you'll need to run the CommandFTP first in order to play the RPG. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll see if I can't fix things up. I'm hoping I have this going correctly ^^;; Enjoy, and I hope you all have fun with this! Looking forward to hearing from you guys ^^

Not quite sure why the videos didn't link here, but argh....just to show that I'm not completely dead, my most recent video.

You need the dimensions.

Also, I didn't really read all the descriptions of your characters. I'd rather like to read a story. I think your maps need work from what I can judge from some of the videos I saw. I like your world map, but from what towns I saw and the Kirisame Household Event video link you posted, they're really really boring. You need to add more details. In the Kirisame Household Event, there's literally like nothing going on as far as mapping is concerned. On the plus side, I really enjoy the music you have for the game.

Here's a couple tutorial topics that I think will do some good.

Town & Interior Mapping Tut:

World Map Tut:
http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,32865.0.html

Both topics are by Sirius. He seems to be really helpful and very proficient with 2k/2k3 so I would suggest that if you have any questions that you ask him.

Yeah, it's not easy for me to do map designs (just look at the Hakurei Shrine, which is like, in the intro video of the entire thing.....it's horrendous. I might have to redo that entire interior of that cuz I'm not happy with how it looks atm....doesn't feel like a shrine at all >_< ).

As far as story goes, it's hard to make things interesting all the time for me. I can only do so much with what I'm working with. Besides which, it's still a beta in progress, and when I release the demo, before I move on any further with the game, I'm hoping to get some massive feedback on it so I can improve the earlier parts of the game (basically the entire demo), including dialogue. And yes, I do have some issues with some parts of the maker, such as trying to get a specific attack going off every 3 turns (this was in the Kirisame Household event btw....Marisa doesn't like to Master Spark every 3 turns apparently like she should >_< ).

Unless you're referring to the map of the Kirisame Household itself...then I can understand what you're getting at. I am using limited resources and am not sure what I want to do for a house that's SUPPOSED to be "tore up", as Aya put it in the video. The same problem I'm having with the Hakurei Shrine as well (both inside and outside), and I think even the Human Village, though I think that the Forest of Magic area is the best looking area in the game so far ^^;;

And as for World Map.....yeeeah....I was trying to go with the Touhou layout of things, but that's really hard when you don't know where stuff is supposed to be at....that, and I didn't resize the world map when I did it....it was the default size that is starts on....I think I didn't resize it as well since, well.....Gensokyo isn't supposed to be that big either. I think it's just a region and not a huge area so.....yeah.....^^;;

Also added in about 1/4 of the story so far (expect spoilers....this is pretty much the script of the story that you'll be reading, and what I'm using to help go with the story, though it's not set in stone, as you'll see the Kirisame Household event in the script is different than the one in the video, as I wanted to get Hope more involved in the story somehow).

Lazer Ki

*yawn* Well, that was a giant first post.
Also, I don't really like the huge monsters, or the mapping. Everything else is okay.
Hi

Xenomic

Yeah, I could probably slim that first post down to what it was originally (very few videos, and leave the rest up for the link to the playlist). As for the giant monsters.....that's one of the things I intend to fix. I was resizing them, and well.....I didn't expect them to be so giant like they were .-. lol

Falcon

You don't have to remove content, just use spoiler tags so it's more organized.

Xenomic

Much obliged. Didn't even notice that there were spoiler tags. Makes it easier to do that now ^^:b

Lazer Ki

Yay!  :) Now I can view this page without Chrome lagging!(Because of the giant post)
Hi

Xenomic

Yeah, my comp was lagging badly too, and I was using FireFox. I wish I could do this over on the other forum I post my project at too though x_x

Adding spoilers doesn't decrease the load time of pages. The information inside of the spoiler tags loads just as if you could see it anyway. If the page loads any faster than it did the first time it would be because of your browser downloading parts of the page so that the next time you visit it has less to load than before. Spoiler tags are there for organization.

Xenomic

And now a new vid in the storyline videos (last vid). Will also probably be the last vid I do for Storyline vids, since everything after that point are major spoilers. I'm also thinking of doing 1 to 2 more scenarios before releasing a demo ^^

Also, since I'm here I might as well ask, how would I go about making this into a demo for release anyways? ^^;;

Xenomic

3 more vids for you guys to view. One in the Test Battles (though it's another world map vid, for some places I added in), and 2 for Storyline vids (both spoilers)

Xenomic

New vid showcasing the next dungeon, spoilers just in case. Also, if anyone has any additional ideas for traps and puzzles, do let me know. It'll help considerably ^^

Forest of Bamboo (yes, I know, there's NO bamboo....silence! ^^;;)

Grafikal

Your fog is way too heavy in that video.

Xenomic

Yeah, I might tone it down one notch. I want it to be hard to see things, but I may have overdone it a bit ^^;;

Updated SDM Map. Tell me what you guys think so far!

Original:

Updated:

It is based off of this image, found on Pixiv.

I could try and model it off of the anime version, but eh....this is a much easier reference. And besides, I already use a couple things from the anime ^^;;

Also, I guess I can say I would accept any help or ideas from anyone (especially from those who are well versed in Touhou, as well as some graphics and whatnot) on this project now. Reason I'm doing this now near the beta release is because after having some feedback from the beta, before I move on too much further, I'd like to revamp some of the maps as well as get some ideas on what to do with future dungeons and whatnot. Granted, I already have in mind what to do for about 1/4 of the game to about 1/2, but still, more ideas and help wouldn't hurt, and of course, all help will be credited as well. ^^;;

At the current moment, I am revamping the Scarlet Devil Mansion maps, since I don't like the older maps, and well.....it's going to take quite some time to do. This is also one of the areas that's going to give me a big headache (lots of rooms that I'm going to be adding in, and moving events and whatnot), and I'm wondering, for you Touhou gurus, where do you think the entrance to the Voile Library should be located? At the current moment, it is in the front foyer, by the steps.....don't know if that's where it would be or not....

Sirius

As far as the map's concerned, I think you could do with making it a bit smaller. When you can't see the top of the building, it makes the base of it look a little like an amorphous blob. It's a step up from the first, but there's still a little too much blank space laying around. I can't see exactly what tileset you're using, but adding the flowerbeds would be a nice touch.

There's also that little shrine-thing in the bottom left corner :D

Xenomic

#18
Yeah, I intended to add those in, hence why I added so much more room. Though that shrine thing is going to be a pain to do, since I don't know how I'm going to pull it off with the current tileset, which is this btw:

I figured that this would be the perfect chipset to use to simulate the feel of a European building (since the building IS supposed to be European....which means me revamping the entire inside is going to be a pain too since I don't know what chipset to use for that...., which I'll show here in a bit). Problem is trying to simulate it correctly. I don't show the top of the building since well.....it's a tall building for one (it's a mansion, c'mon! lol), and for another, you can go to the roof anyways, which is to the clocktower (yes, my clocktower is very ghetto looking alright!? It doesn't even have a clock T-T. I need to find a clock to fit on it.....). That, and I'm not sure how to make it not.....blob looking....any ideas?? Cuz I'm trying to make it as close to the image of the mansion in the above post as possible, since it fits it perfectly just about ^^;

This is what I'm using for the inside right now (yeah, it's the original chipset that came with the game....but I added a few things here and there to it....I don't know what else to put in or what else would fit the inside well enough ^^;;)

Xenomic

Btw, how does this look compared to the last updated SDM? Building look anymore defined than before?

Lazer Ki

Well, the gate walls don't look like walls. They seem to be a millimeter thick.
Hi

Xenomic

Sirius

I'd try using a black tile behind the walls, so they don't look like paper. I think the part of the house to the right of the entrance sticks out one tile, too.

The outlines on the building do make it look better, though.

Xenomic

Yeah, it does look like it'd stick out one more tile. I think I'll do that then.

Mmm.....with behind the walls, do you mean on the side of where the edges of the walls would be and underneath areas such as the balcony and whatnot?

Sirius

I mean put something behind those walls. The vertical tiles make it look like the wall's only a couple pixels thick. If it doesn't look good with something behind it, it'll be fine. I'm just being picky  :P
