IP Tracking and Messenger Tracking

Some people on a gun forum site told me that the feds could find any post I make on any website and use it in a court case with nothing but my IP address, and use it in court cases if they ever need to/want to/get bored and have nothing better to do but pick on an innocent 17 year old and take his money. How do I prevent this? If I can't prevent it, is it something I should worry about?

I saw an episode of a judge show where a kid stole another kid's PS2 and they used the kid's chat logs from somewhere to determine that he DID in fact take it. So can the feds/do the feds track what people say on IM programs? And is it something I should be worried about? If so, how can I prevent it?

Also, is it illegal for somebody who's under 18 to write pornographic stories in collaboration with somebody else/some people who might be over 18? Should I be worried about the feds catching me doing THIS?

I'm a little on-edge lately after what the people on that gun forum told me. Of course, they're probably a bunch of right-wingers who think the American government is composed of super beings who can do anything at all, so what do they know about computers, right? Oh please tell me that's the case. =(

They will only do anything when you are suspected.

All they really need is your IP and they can track you. And yeah, they probably can get it from an IM.

Your ISP tracks your IP Addresses even if you change them. So even if you change them they can still figure out which ones you have had.

your isp keeps a track of what computer had what ip address for a certain period of time methinks its 10 years. however what you are doing is not against the law and even if it was the feds have got other things to do like stopping bombs going off.

The ISP who provide you with internet have your IP as stated, and no one cares what you do on the internet unle your planning attacks of a large scale.

Animefan, if you would stop for a second and think about how many people are using the internet right now. -I'm on a gun forum because I'm turning 18 soon and 18 is the age for shotguns and rifles. I need some gun advice. I also need some air gun advice because you can buy metal-shooting CO2 guns at younger ages and legally own them, so I'm looking for air gun replicas of fancy or older weapons.

-I realize now that they're a bunch of ultra right-wing America nuts who thinks the government has the power and the time to do anything they want to and is above the law. They're also afraid of their government and afraid of the law. They'd put the law before their own morals even in the most dire of cases, and they think they know a lot about computers even though their website looks like it was thrown together in MSPaint.

I was stupid for believing a single word they said. These are patriotic nuts we're talking about after all. They'll say whatever it takes to feed their "America can do ANYTHING" delusion, and they obviously suspended me because they couldn't handle a conflicting set of beliefs.

In other words, they're a bunch of government-fearing pussies, and I was dumb enough to get sucked into their shenanigans. Heck, they don't even allow cursing on that site! They're GUN OWNERS for crying out loud! They're supposed to be rough n' tough!

I think I need a new gun forum site. Or I'll just milk these guys for gun information until I've learned everything I need to know and then take my leave. No, I'm not recruiting people to help defend the internet. I have faith that net neutrality shall not fall.

Nobody here cares about any of the bullshit that you post about anymore, if they ever did. I mean, sure, we all know that you just want attention. This is most likely not helping you, but as I've told you before, I'm done trying to reason with you.

The truth is, the gun-toting portion of the public is probably in agreement with us as to how insane you are. Most likely, they were trying to scare you out of buying a gun because they would never want someone like you in their ranks. After being kicked, banned, and suspended from half of the internet, a normal person would start to realize that the problem might not lie with everyone else. Speaking of the internet, you mention net neutrality- I believe your misconception is a simple case of only seeing the forest for the trees. The internet as a whole is neutral, in that anybody can say just about anything, so long as nothing illicit occurs. There are obviously going to be sites that are not neutral, because people are always going to have conflicting opinions. For someone who speaks their mind so freely, you should know that by now.

Finally, I would agree with Arlen about this being sad, if it weren't for the fact that I've already been through that phase of the Animefan cycle. At first it was intriguing, because it was so awkward, and I would get a chuckle out of your antics. After that came a bit of altruism, because I really thought that with a little pushing, you could understand that you needed to seek professional help. Then I was a little sad, because I kept saying to myself, "You know, all he really needs is a friend." Now I'm starting to enter the 4th stage of the cycle, which is hoping that you get locked up somewhere.

Well, you come here, as Holk said, once a month to post some random shit and all and each time, you end up getting flamed or hated more. Once you realise that 'these guys are flaming me for everything' , just be a person that they like.
