I attempted a White Ties Style battler set for Fighter002. Its free for use, but I mainly want some criticism on it. I plan to do more of these.

Spoiler for Clickity:

I just realized I forgot the belt that goes around her waist. :P

Note: I'm not sure if its aligned correctly, if someone could tell me if it is, I'd appreciate it.

  • Needs contrast, its too bright.
  • Palette needs more colors, only 1 or 2. Just for in-depth shading, highlights.
  • Movement looks stiff, needs to be more natural.
  • The clothing seems stuck to the body, don't be afraid to go off the template. (Unless its tight)
Not sure if I missed anything.

Well, all I have to say is good luck.

To add on to what DLBM had said, try to use RTP color schemes. Your colors look very saturated. Take the RTP sprite of this character into some image editing program and use the eye drop tool on each color of the sprite. I don't think there'd be more than 32 colors. Then use those 32 colors (if even that many) to do the sprite.

That template you're using is also horrible. I suggest you build your own sprite poses unique from character to character instead of putting clothes on a template.

I noticed that you aren't using the real white ties battlers as well, that template is pretty horrible.
Here's an edit of the White Ties battler, I hope it'll help you understand some stuff :)
I also noticed the RTP uses a lot of colors that aren't needed and are horrible  :'(

Here' you go.

Gah I noticed error in my shading but whatever.

Yeah. That's one thing that I dislike about XP. The colors for everything is so desaturated. VX games are brighter and more colorful as far as RTP is concerned. Desaturated colors promote very dull feelings. Which is why I revamp all my XP games by replacing the RTP with a more saturated RTP.

Desaturated is cool and all but using a lot of colors for the clothes and stuff is pretty surprising like instead of using purple/blue they used lots of layers of the same color that can be done in an illusion. I guess we can't do anything about it *shrugs*

Thanks for all the criticism. I didn't realize that the base was that terrible. Also, this is my first try and I'm still trying to learn the basics, so this was mainly just a practice run.

Good job. Keep up the practice and you'll be good at it for sure.
