Well howdy hey folks! Well I am getting into the act of making my own tilesets. Going through the simple processes and the hard to make things... well... original!  ;D
So Here I have a couple images of two I am working on.

For this one I made everything except the stairs, the water and the roof as well as the guy (But I did make butterflies to!)

And for this one, made a standard rocky-ish floor, and I love how the walls came out. (Honestly I don't know where the walls came from within my mind, just the old thought process, "A little pixels here and a little pixels there...")

Anyways feedback is appreciated and I do want to hear everyones thoughts!

It looks fairly flat (like the Banbo fence area's look like they could be laying on the floor, the colour need graduating at the bottom  being darker and getting light the higher up, and a shadow could also help make them look 3D)... The way you made the wooden platform with the shadow behind it is what I mean, that looks wicked...

I know your trying to make some thing very custom and not to the RTP style, and that can be hard...

If you was to make this more RTP standard you need to make some shadder and altenative ground tiles, may be even some auto tiles to go with it...

Saying that though I think it's a good start to some thing that could turn out to be very interesting.

I know your first strength isn't graphics, but what I am seeing is very good and I hope you keep at it.

Hey thanks Los, yeah I do need to work more on shading stuff, but I might worry about that when I get to completing these tilesets. Btw I am making these tilesets for the member "Forty-Two" and his game dragon saga. So we'll see how it all turns out. I need to up my skills in the art of pixel!

I'll keep updating these however as I make more progress, and yes thanks about the idea for the autotiles, I had completely forgot about it for a sec!

I really like the grass in the top one, and the bridge/platform (though the shadow is going the wrong way - if you want it to fit in with RTP tilesets, shadow should be at lower right).

The second one is too busy for me.  And I'm sure it's just the combination of roof, bricks and ground all being made up of very small "tiles" - there's no contrast between them as far as texture goes.  Put different buildings on that same ground, or those buildings on a sandy or grassy base, and I think they'd look totally different.
Always remember you're unique.
Just like everybody else.

It needs allot of shading. Basically everything LoS said.

Ok I will take everyone's points into account to advance further, gracias muchos!

Umm... Do you think the town tileset would look better if I made the ground bigger pieces of rock perhaps? And regardless I will make a little bit of sandy stuff to put on the ground around the houses to give them more of a "set in" sort of feel.

I can see you made those maps very quickly to show your new tile sets off...

I think you have done well to get your tile set to tile so well, the texture alignment is spot on... Can't wait to see the end result !!
