[Writing] Is this a type of poetry?

Picture yourself atop a building. A tall building, over twenty stories. When you look down you cannot see people only cars. The building is positioned by a body of water, frequently used for swimming, fishing and other recreational activities. Since it is a windy day water from the lake splashes against your face leaving a cold tingly feeling. You sigh in bliss as you take your final breath on land, only to find yourself falling. This isn't the type of falling your used to though, you know this is your last time on earth so you instinctivly think of all of your past memories. When you first learned how to ride a bike, your first kiss. Graduation. And you think to yourself, none of this really matters anymore because my life will be over in a few short moments.

You continue thinking what does matter, appearence? No it changes with the times, no one can stay beautiful. Impressions? Hardly, because it is nothing more then an image of yourself through SOMEONE elses perspective. You finally realise that your impact on everyone around you is the only thing that matters to anyone, ironically enough impact is the last thing you'll remember as the impact of earth eradicates your life as an entity soo harshly you can do nothing but die...just sit there and die.

Iv'e heard it called "imaginative poetry" but it's not true poetry.  Nor is this new thing...what is..."free verse" or whatever it is where there are no rules.  Poetry has rules, and all "correct" forms of poetry have a certain scheme to them, like beats per line, rhyming words at the ends of lines in a certain order...there's many different types of poetry.  Sonnets, iambic pentameter like Chaucer's The Pardoner's Tale (which was lots of fun to re-enact as a school english/film project)...there's tons of them out there but usually poetry involves some kind of rhyme scheme.  You could have a paragraph where each line has the same beat but the first and last lines rhyme.

I should get my english teacher to sum this up...he was THE BEST teacher I've had in years.  Fun guy, really knew his stuff...he drilled this poetry stuff into us (and over the weeks my bad memory stripped the screws, so his work is unfortunately slipping from me...)

But something like this...this is an "imagination writing", the kind of writing that lets one see an image in  the mind and gets the reader thinking.  It's a good effort, a very good one, I'll admit, very creative.  But poetry it ain't...srry.

Ah yes...from the minds of the weary come the strangest things.  'Tis how my friend and I came up with a website idea that is at a standstill cuz he moved to Wyoming and is now in military training, and I've been really busy since the idea.  We were both "sleep-drunk" as we call it, and laughing at anything.  'Twas fun.  And why am I speaking like this?  I must be tired...I mean drunk...I mean, what?  *looks around as if nothing's going on*

Most writers write best either late at night or when they're tired.  Me for example.  I can add like three pages a night to my book if I'm really tired (and if I just watched something like Lord of the Rings or Narnia or something), but the next day I have no memory of what I wrote cuz I was so sleep-wasted.  Usually, though, what I've written is pretty good.
