[pretty much RESOLVED] 2k3 quick battle questions

1)  When the characters receive the ultimate armor in my game I want their battle images to change.  How do I do this?  Also, can I rearrange the character battle positions on the screen based on the order the player puts them in?

2) I made two Skills that the player can use in combat that don't consume MP (they're basic Stab and Slash and Punch kind of things), but some of the characters can't use them in combat even though they're almost ten levels past the level they learn the skills at.  Does Attack or Intelligence Influence matter?  (Stab and Slash have Attack Influnece around 4 on the slide bar)  This is also annoying because some other skills can't be used until they're at too high of a level for it to really matter since they have a new attack.

3) How do I display enemy health amounts?  Or can I?  I want to set it up where if a player uses a skill at the right health amount they get a good item or soemthing.


I've looked through the Help files and screwed around with the various controls and still can't find anything to help with these issues.

1) i dont know how....but i think you can do that....

2) Hmmm....is the skill consumes 0 MP, but how it doesnt want to work, it should work fine.....how about you make it they learn those skill from persons (with events)?....i can test it if you want.

3) you can by using variable (i think) ......and for the stealing stuff, you can do it by making a event on the Database, M. Group on the Battle Events.....make the trigger if the monsters (specific which mosnter) hp is the amount you want it to and put in that page a contitional branch and make if the Skill "Stealth Steal" (a skill of my game, so dont steal name  ;) ) is used...is easier if you make it a item so when you use it it activates a switch....dunno if it works havent test it lol

yeah i meant from your game...but ill see if i can do something on mine....

hmm......well since you can specific if the skill if used, just have to make a Battle event with the enemies HP it at the desired HP amount (in the Trigger) and put in there a conditional branch if the skill is used and remove its armor (which means stealing the armor and decreasing its defense)
oh yeah dont forget to put a decrease enemy's defense when you take its armor...

I'll attempt to bring the game over to this computer...or at least the game folder in a zip.
It seems to vary on the level of the character, but then again, the lower attack, Stab, isn't available, while the later-learned attack, Slash, is available. 


I'll try that tip tonight.  letcha know if it works...


You wouldn't happen to know how I can do a Limit Break system like in FF7?  In that, the characters get madder each time they're hit, and that fills their Limit bar.  Once it's filled their regualr Attacks are turned to their Limit Breaks, and then reverted back to attacks after a Limit is used.  I have a separate Limit command and set the Skills to being under that command, and I'm wondering 1)how do I set up a system to count up hits in order to unlock Limits, and 2) can I change the Fight command to a Limit command?  Or do I hafta have the Limit Break teach them their limit skills and then get rid of them after one is used?  (If I can get the folder onto this computer and post it you'll see the setup.)

I can't upload the folder, even as a zip...it's too large of a filesize, and every filehost I try keeps on rerouting me to "This page cannot be displayed" after fifteen to twenty minutes of waiting for it to upload.  I'll make some screenshots of the skill settings and the battle scenarios where the problem occurs if that'll help.

My computer that I use for RPGM is going a bit screwy so I haven't tested anything all day...hopefully tomorrow will be different.  The skills you're looking for are titled "Stab" and "Slash".  Often, Stab is unable to be used, as is the Run command at the beginning of a normal battle, but Slash, the more powerful attack, is able to be used.  Heroes 1 and 2 both learn Stab and Slash naturally, as basic moves. 

(To anyone else who views this file, I do not give permission to use the sprites I've designed for this game, so no stealing.  If you want to use them, PM me for permission.)

I know how to do the sprite thing.

Go to your Database and go to common event. Select the event to change Battle Sprite to the armor change. Go to the armor in the database and select to set the common event to that. Make sure to give the common event a name, you know?

Ummm...is this still 2k3?  I just stared at the possible commnds in the Common Event tab and there is no Change Battle Sprite or whatever it is.    There's Change Sprite Associations but I already have that set to change their overworld sprites after the armor is acquired...


I tried that "item drop" skill...I can't specify if a skill is used, only if the Skill Command is used, and I can't get it so that armor is gotten from the enemy.  For some reason, with most of the Common Event things I try in battles, they end up not working...wish I knew what the problem was...I also wanted to draw a picture at a certain point in a battle but it won't even do that (through Common Event).

I could always turn it into a hidden skill that increases Experience depending on when it's used...that could be interesting....

Well...the Common Events don't work on Battles (i think), you have to make then Battle Events for them to work....draw a picture? you mean show a picture in battle? or something else?

I wanted to test the idea and found it didn't work...I wanted to draw an image of a creature at a certain point in a battle just to see if I could, and of course it didn't work.  And if Common Events don't work in battles, why is there an option?

Well, I figured out last night about the class-change thing, but no matter what I do, most Common Events will not work in battles.  And they're not switch- or variable-operated.  I can change equipment and stuff, but things like Show Picture and others won't do anything.

This reminds me...I gotta get workin' on the limit system...

Alien Soldier, you tested the game yet? Any luck figuring out the skill problems?

alright, no guarantees of this working BUT
I'm 99% sure it will

have a common event that detects if the "Artifact Armor" is equipped (let's just call it that fer the time being)
if it is, change the character to a class that has a different armor set in battle (have levels carry over)
if not, set them back to their normal class
have both classes named the same

now this common event only needs to work on the map, where the equipment can be changed
that should work for ya

(in other words, you DON'T need it to work in battles)

NAMKCOR...thanks for the tip but I already have something like that...but I'll try to implement it into battles.  The current state only checks if certain items are equipped and then changes their overworld images.

Okay, I'm ditching the idea.  After an hour of messing with it and still no progress, I'm ditching them.

And I'm going with class changes...just thought of a few ways to work around the FF7 style while still keeping with it.

I'm kinda wanting to make my own graphics...I know there's a LOT of character image work to be done and a LOT of tileset and other stuff work (Sephiroth still isn't finished, the "finished" images of him are a roughdraft in progress).  I'm saving charasresources as a backup in case mine end up looking like complete crap, which they might cuz I still don't understand tileset layouts in RGPM.  I've only just started on that, though.  This game is more of a trial/getting-used-to-the-program project in combo with an idea that my FF7-fanatic friend came up with and I'm gonna surprise him with.  Hopefully.  He wanted a game where you can play as Sephiroth...

BTW two questions never got answered and probably won't, I'm probably gonna ditch those as well:
1) displaying enemy health amounts
2) allowing the player to change battle positions of the characters (via character order or something)

The second one I ask because sometimes in some of the games I've toyed around with, if the teams are set up just right some characters overlap each other pretty closely.
