Moving around boards by pixel instead of by tile

I need assistance in trying to make navigation of my boards a little smoother, i.e is it possible for your characters to move diagonallly on the maps, instead of just straight up,down, left, and right? Is there an option that allows your characters to move across the map/boards on a pixel basis, instead of tile to tile? I just think it would make gameplay feel a little less constrained.

Any help or advice is appreciated! Thanks much!

*also, im using RPG Maker 2003, so keep that in mind...Though if there is an easier way in XP, i'll try to download that.

I doubt it's possible in 2003, but for XP, you can find diagonal movement and pixel movement scripts around. I found them on hbgames.org a month or so ago.
