QuoteOctober 05, 2007 - Information from holloway from the Gaming World forums has recently reported the existence of RPG Maker XP's sequel, RPG Maker VX. According to his sources, Play-Asia.com has recently opened its pre-orders to RPG Maker VX. According to Tkool Newspaper, it is presumably an upgrade to RPG Maker XP, like RPG Maker 2003 was to RPG Maker 2000.
On the same site it states that RPG Maker VX been scheduled to be released on December 27, 2007 and it will be sold for a price of ¥8980 (USD $99.00 or AUD $116.31). However, there are currently no formal announcments from the developers of the RPG Maker series, Enterbrain.
The Tkool Newspaper also notes several information regarding this new program, such as the strengthening of the autotile function, increase of frame rate, and a feature that will help people that are not good at programming. This information is not confirmed.
According to Tkool Newspaper, a site which was supposed to accept pre-orders for RPG Maker VX has been deleted on the 2nd of October. However, Play-Asia.com's pre-order page still exists.
There has been many speculations on the sequel to the popular game engine RPG Maker XP, but most of them were left unconfirmed - could this be one of them? We would still have to wait for Enterbrain's official announcement.

What's your thoughts about this? I think it sounds wonderfull.
I heard about this the other day. It's going to have to be pretty good, with comparable (and free!) programs like Stencyl in the works as well.
I wonder if they are going to do some changes in the RTP or something. That would be pretty cool.
I'm more interested in whether or not they're going to have a default battle system that doesn't blow chunks.
If they do like they did to rm2k3(Making a side-view battle system instead of the old one), then I would do anything to have it. rm2k almost has the same system as XP, so hopefully, they will upgrade to side-view, like they did to rm2k3.
How long do you think until it is hacked and translated to engrish?
193 minutes of hardcore translation. The console for VX being PC?
99 dollars? WOW,,that's quite a LOT!
I feel like it's just going to be RPG Maker XP with an updated RTP...
RPG Maker 2003 is to RPG Maker 2000, as RPG Maker VX is to ?
(That is because 2003 is practically 2000 with a different battle system and a little up'd RTP.)
But it's not like the new one's being labeled "RMXPP"
QuoteThe console for VX being PC?
Yes.

Like rm2k3 was an upgrade to rm2k, RPG Maker VX will be an upgrade to RPG Maker XP, if I understand clearly.

Aw shit
so will xp be unsupported by them then? WORRY FREE ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS?
What does VX stand for? ???
Version X.
Lol Idk :V
IDK, maybe since there was Windows 95 and RPG Maker 95, Windows 2000 and RPG Maker 2000, XP and RMXP, then Vista and VX?
Sounds pretty damn awesome.
I know how I'm gonna get this already. :V

This is what I'm looking for!
Hahahahaha!!!!
Sweet.
LET'S HOPE IT'S VISTA ONLY, EH~
or atleast Vista compatible :(
Let's hope it adds something more to xp, like 2k3 added cool battle animations.
NEED MOAR STUFF.
IT NEED MOAR
And what if you could choose what battler system you could use? That would be awesome :=:
It'd have to be a pretty huge improvement if I am going to spend $100.00 on it.
I doubt noone needs to spend.
I hope for gods sake that there will be a trial.
Just in case, nobody's seen the enterbrain page: http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/products/rpgvx/
translated version (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/products/rpgvx/index.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/products/rpgvx/%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-ca)
Oh shit,,according to the screenshots the default battle system will be the same as in RM 2000.
I'd guess that it allows for multiple types of battles, rather then enforcing a default. That is just a guess based on the first paragraph:
"Action RPG easy to make!", which suggests that it is possible to use an ABS. That is just speculation of course. And, of course, I would assume that all scripts for XP would also work for VX, and so it would be possible to just transfer any battle system, including XP's default, into a project.
I hope to God there's a keygen.

I don't have 100$. >_>
Hopefully, by that time I will have that money to spend
I'll pirate it myself. ;D
Bootleg!
I'm confused by the grammar of the translated page
but honestly, it just looks like a facelifted XP
if they added waypoints (for event walking paths bascially) then I'd consider pirating it
but $100 is too steep for what looks like Prettier RMXP

If the battlers are like that, it's cool.
Agree.
I hope it'll be something real cool...

Except he don't wear glasses.

EDIT2:My sentence sounded weird so I changed it (old sentence: I found that everything isn't much different, here's some screenshots:)
Those are on the enterbrain site, but they are really too small for me to tell whether I like or dislike them (though the apparent absence of default battler setting speaks poorly of the interface if considering any scripts already made which take specific battler settings into account). In any case, I don't care about the graphics or the default scripts so much. I want to know if events run faster; I want to know if there are advanced eventing options, such as a graphical interface for forced movement, or better picture handling; I want to know if there is an improved database, and possibly something like a parallel process common event that can be run in battles, with the appropriate battle commands, so that you don't have to go through every troop and copy-paste stuff. I like the increased frame rate that is promised. The fact is, graphics can't get much better without also losing customizability, and with the script editor, any cool in-game features can be added fairly easy. I'm looking for improvements to the interface before I make any judgement.
QuoteRPG Maker VX
RPG Maker VX is the latest RPG Maker version announced by Enterbrain. It's official release is scheduled for Dec. 27 2007, and the online shopping website Play-Asia.com is already selling the program as a pre-sale at the cost of USD 99$. In this new maker, the interface will be more user-friendly, allowing new users to create their games with ease. Also, the frames per second rate was doubled, allowing a higher quality in gaming. The programming language Ruby will still be the same. Also, a new editor and a new RTP are included.

Yeah, good you can use scripts because the default Battle system has no heroes in it. Like 2k, and we want to improve it.

So, what do you guys think?
I'm guessing that the tabs underneath the tileset will be to switch tilesets, so that means you aren't limited to one tileset. I couldn't find any layer buttons, so I'm not sure if they have map layers or if it's infinite. I like that they're using faces again instead of battlers. Also, it seems that they switched back to 2K battle system, I'm hoping that they will have an option for 2K3 type battle system as well.
and the oscar for the best map maker goes to.....

I'm in the same boat as you- hoping.
The tielset tab thing looks like 95's.
This looks neater than the previous makers.
No Jap.
Everything is neat, like the houses, the maps, the style of mixing 2k3 with it.
but the default battle system sucks. NEEDS SPRITES.

Nightwolf, you got a point in that.
It looks like Dragon Quest's battle system, which sucks.
Err... RM95 had only 5 tilesets, and it had the same type of buttons as in those images. If they're really stupid, they may only allow you to use 5 tilesets =o
That's horrible.
Yeah whoever's saying this looks like a souped-up 95 is right on the spot.
Quotebut the default battle system sucks. NEEDS SPRITES.
*cough*RGSS*cough*
But seriously, these are just screenshots, right? There's no one to say they won't change, or even that they didn't just take a screenshot of one of
many default battle systems? Anyway, if that's
really all it's limited to, give or take a couple weeks from its release, there'll be RGSS modifications for th battle system.

Some new features of RPG Maker VX, provided by Game Watch:
- The autotiling is strengthened to produce better maps
- Face graphics can be shown in dialogues again, like in RPG Maker 2000/2003
- All new default material (graphics and sound) by Osamu
- Fonts are modified in different areas
- Implementation of the popular 'run' feature (press Shift to make your character walk faster)
- Frame rate is increased from 30 FPS to 60 FPS to produce smoother gameplay.
- Many popular functions that were implemented by scripting in RPG Maker XP has been converted to event commands in RPG Maker VX!
- A 'beginner function' that automatically creates things like treasure chests, doors, inns, random dungeons, etc.
The increased FPS and the new event commands may be reason enough for me to switch, so long as I can still use RMXP graphics. It may mean I need to modify some scripts that usse actor battlers of course.

Tsukuru Blog: About RPG Maker VX Material
Important information regarding graphics.
By SeeYouAlways
October 10, 2007 - The Tsukuru Blog is Enterbrain's blog for the development of RPG Maker VX. Yesterday's post dealt with the official announcement of RPG Maker VX itself and today it talks more about the new graphics that we will be seeing.
According to Kawashima (writer of the blog), some graphic formats will be changed in RPG Maker VX (oh no!). Appearantly some will have different format to RPG Maker XP.
Tilesets
They retain the same size and format but minor adjustments will be required because of the new autotiling feature.
Characters
RPG Maker VX's character sets will resemble that of RPG Maker 2000/2003; each file can have up to 8 characters in one set. Looks like they are bringing back old features... Yet again.
However, do not worry as you can still use single characters.
In addition, a new screenshot has been posted that emphasizes the expression bubbles (does it take the form an animation, or a character though?).
Faces
Facial expressions brings your characters alive - now that is done easily with RPG Maker VX. The screenshot below shows us the corresponding face graphic in the dialogue and the character's expressions shown in the expression bubble. This will reduce much workload for developers.

Face stuff sounds cool. Hopefully the charactersets need not be a set size, like in RMXP
Quote from: SeeYouAlwaysOctober 11, 2007 - Today the Tsukuru Blog tells us about the return of the vehicle function of RPG Maker VX for world maps.
Nothing special as we have seen this feature through other screenshots already, but we get to see a new screenshot nonetheless. The vehicle function did not exist in RPG Maker XP (who knows why not) and hence this popular feature from RPG Maker 2000/2003 is returning to RMVX. Like before, you just place the vehicle starting position icon and characters can ride on it.

The character is talking while on the airship vehicle.
World maps can still take the effect of specific areas of the world, such as encoutner rates, etc.
Boring...
I look forward to the new maker ^^
I hope they have fixed some of the deficiencies in the RMXP engine.

I couldn't find any layer buttons, so I'm not sure if they have map layers or if it's infinite.
I can see A layers button - right where we'd expect to look for them, but there's one button for layers, and one labelled Ev, obviously for the event layer. I'm HOPING this means there are enough layers that it would be too cluttered to put buttons for each on the toolbar, or that they're infinite.
"A 'beginner function' that automatically creates things like treasure chests, doors, inns, random dungeons, etc."
BOO! These are about the only things that make me feel clever enough to actually HELP anybody out around here! ;)
I think I'll be getting this!
They did this to counter the realise of Stencly, when it comes out we will use it but, no one else will because of the snazzey new RPG maker. I vote we all spread Stencly Proppaganda! lulz
Common sense say that noone will be using XP as much when this comes out. Because of keygens.

Agreed, but someone could make a fan site, and ppl would filter there
If I must choose, I'd pick Stencyl. Not RMVX.

Scripts may work, but how much can you do with a script. And a noob who doesn't have the net, bought the maker, can't search for a script or make one is in a complete loss because it's a waste of his money.
I think i'll go with Stencyl too.
Also because the Stencyl site has MOAR information, not just dissapointing battle system screenshots of gay reptard dragons :V

I love it when people post in RPG Maker VX threads that they'll use Stencyl instead of RPG Maker VX. ^^
Well, okay, so it's only happening on two sites as far as I know, but it's still cool.

Hardly. VX is actually looking pretty damn good, and I especially like the fact they've expanded on eventing, because that was what RPG Maker was made for IMO. The only downside is it's hefty price, and while there are ways to circumvent that, it makes Stencyl's open-source nature all the more appealing.
The best soultion is to get them BOTH, then.
^_^
If by scripts or by something else we can make the battle system different from the spriteless gay reptard pic then i think this will be good.
Hrmmm i dont think rpgxp script

RPG Maker VX features some new beautiful graphics.
By SeeYouAlways
October 19, 2007 - RPG Maker VX features the return of face graphics, which was not implemented in RPG Maker XP, as announced and seen on some of the screenshots. Well, today's blog post talks briefly about them.
In RPG Maker VX, the face graphics are drawn by Fumio Minagwa, the owner of RGB230, which exhibits his illustrations.

It is evident that he is one talented artist, as we can see in other released screenshots. We look forward to seeing more of his excellent work at the date of RPG Maker VX's release.

RPG Maker VX Engine Features
Database
Objects in the game you are making such as your hero, skills (e.g. magic), items, enemies, etc. are created and managed by the database. When you first create your game, general content is already created for you so you do not have to start completely from scratch. Solely by the use of the database, an original game can be created.
Upgraded from RPG Maker XP:
Actor
You can now set face graphics to heroes. Additionally, you can add options such as dual wielding weapons as well as AI control to each character, like in RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003.

Actor Database
Equipping Screen
Class
You can now set the command name for the class' skill.

Skills in Battle
Item
Icons can be selected more conveniently through the display window. Not only icons can be set for skills and items, it can now also be set for status changes as well.

The Map Editor
The map editor allows you to create your game's world using "tiles". RPG Maker VX features an enhanced map editor from the previous versions. Creating maps are carried out as easily as clicking on the tile that is located on the left of the editor, and placing it on the map. It is basically like drawing a picture with a graphic program (tiles are analogous to colors in this sense).
The time of making maps is reduced by the strengthened auto tile function
The number of tiles with the "auto tile" function to adjust the borderline of a different tile automatically have increased greatly. An auto tile can work not only for the coastline but also the wall and the roof, etc. in the building, and therefore the time that is needed to create maps can be saved significantly.
Moreover, shadows come automatically to a specific tile, allowing the map to look more realistic than ever!

Such buildings can be easily built only by putting the tile of the roof and the wall.
Faster work is possible by function adjustment
A tile set is divided into five sets: The A set contains the geographical features that becomes the base (land, etc) and B, C, D and E is able to be put repeatedly, without worrying about the layer.
Moreover, the settings of a tile can be immediately changed just by clicking on the tile palatte.

Features of Games Made with RPG Maker VX
A game created with RPG Maker VX is run smoothly at 60 frames per second (FPS) while running on a 544 × 416 pixel resolution and 32-bit color.
It is also possible to allow your characters to travel in a vehicle, a function that is returned from RPG Maker 2000/2003. In addition, the games are equipped with a 'dash' function in which a player can press the Shift key to make the characters walk faster.
The combat system has changed to a standard first-person view battle.
Moreover, the messages are rendered more artfully and it is possible to adopt a "UmePlus Gothic" font.

It is possible to loop maps for the globe effect

I'm tired. Go to the site for more information. There's a lot there.

what the hell kind of gank-ass resolution is that
I concur, that is totally gank-ass.
Indeed, it's the gankiest of all ass.
D= The Sprites Scares the Hibi-Jibis off me, and the one who made the Mapping shall die. (Ermm, lol).
The only thing I care about is if it's willing to use the Scripts and be able to use the XP Scripts (Thou I doubt)
=X I would simply get both instead and test.
The translated version is slow.... ;9
Slow to come.
And slow to be pirated ;D
My connections said it'll take a few weeks to get them. :-\
I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it, it looks like a pregnant RM2K3.
If anyone does buy it, i want their key, sos i can try it ;8
Wil VX work on a Windows XP? Or only for Vista? Because not everyone is loaded.
I imagine it will work for both.
That's good

100MB available hard disk space
Looks nice. Seems to me like RPG maker 2000 on steroids, but meh. I would definitly give it a try if I could get a hold of it. I like the front-view battle system like in DQ/DW, actually =)
I agree with Lavata.
Some of those new and returning features are nice.
However, either the tileset sucks, or that was a bad mapper.
Those maps look like shit!
Not to sure if I want to go to VX, I'll stay on XP for a little while after it's release...
If people actually decide to use that over XP I mean.
I wonder what the music will be like..?
I'm sure it was just the mapper. I find the tilesets to look quite good, actually, and they look very clean as well. What I wondering is will they let us make a description of the spell as in RPG Maker 2000. For example:
(Name) chants Flare.
A bright light engulfs the enemy!
or something similar. I would like it if we could still do that, but input longer messages.
I also hope the music is good. RPG Maker XP's was not really that bad, so i hope that this ones music is even better.
They've confirmed a Dungeon Generator.
Dungeon Generator?
Want proof!
Theres been a dungeon generator since RM2k. I don't think they would just "drop" it out.
Yeah, but maybe this time they made one that didn't suck nuts.

If you knew how to use it right and not use it to make one big ass dungeon it was hella handy.
Yes, but what I mean is a random dungeon generator that creates a new, random dungeon each time you play. As in, the dungeon would look different each time you played.
Well, I think the purpose of the tool is just to give you ideas for the shape. I think you are supposed to flesh out the dungeon yourself. Also, Malson, I believe someone wrote a script which does that. http://www.geocities.com/geowil11/randmapgen.html It was severely limited though.
@Seaking: the feature was not available in RMXP
Anyway, English release is scheduled for February 2008. And the English page is now up: http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/products/rpgvx/eng
Also, demo video: "It's almost like cheating"

the sprites they use almost look like the Tyke template from .org
I love the accent. I guess the chest/door thing is helpful but that removes eventing use and takes out the easier getting-used to of events and such. ;-; IMO, of course.
February, huh? ::)
Yeah, February. ::)
Oh, is it just me or did he say that the frontal battle system is the best?!
But the side view battle system was good though and it says RGSS 2.
Does that mean that the Ruby is upgraded?
I dunno, probably?

Wow I know I am going to see lots of Final Fantasy Legend and Dragon Warrior remakes with this RPG Maker VX.
I know why no one can see layer selection buttons. It's because there are no layers. There is a floor and there is a decoration / wall. That's it. That's what it looks like to me.
If nobody watched the video, you wouldn't know where the layers are, but they're underneath the tile select from what I remember, and there seems to be five layers! <3
From what I read those five tiles work like this:
A = floors / walls
B = counters
C = decorations / trees / plants
D = signs
E = misc / anything
I don't have it exact as to what each of them means, but it means something similar
I also have the feeling that they are giant tilesets, where every tile is accessable at once instead of having snow / forrest / town / dungeon.
I also read and saw examples that you can use any sprite set. They used 2K3 sprites, XP sprites and VX sprites. The new technology merely specifies that the sprites be divisible by 4. Which I guess is like XP.
No, the regular sprite sets are like this:
There are only three frames of animation
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rpgrevolution.com%2Fnews%2F102007%2Fblog071026_2.jpg&hash=604eb7edceffde14132526d1814f95bbd3464698)
You can also make character sets that only have 1 person in them, but you need to put a $ in front of the file name.
Also, there is some information on resources located here:
http://www.rpgrevolution.com/rmvx/material.php
Higher frame rate but low animation?
:(
I saw what Lost is talking about they had the spirtes from other games and you can indeed see the height differences. I did remake Final Fantasy Legend, but no one cared. Oh and there is a remake of Dragon Warrior for RPG Maker 2000

I'd like to mess around with RMVX, but I think I'd stick with Flash 8 and Stencyl.

Provided with another choice, learning ActionScript would be better than VX. ;D

Russian guy? Why Russian? Don Miguel wasn't Russian :police:
If only it were some Russian girl to crack it. I am Russian and a girl. However I do not speak Japanese to translate.

Wrong. A english version is being released after the Japanese/Korean. Whatever.
But someone will probably make a crack.
So?
Then we'll skip a step and it willl be directly cracked, and we wuill have VX sooner ;)
I doubt anyone would bother translating it since it will come out only three months after the japanese version fully translated. It'll probably be a lot easier to wait three months and then make a keygen or something for the official version, rather than cracking and translating the Japanese version. So I doubt anybody will bother. I could be wrong though.

Exactly my point.
When I first saw RMVX I was slightly disappointed with the tilesets (the way they looked) but over time I have started to like them. The simple to use "Quick Event Creation Tool" (for things like Inns, which could take awhile before) will speed up the game making process, but not take the fun out of it. All the menus and options look, simply, amazing! I find the in-game layout to be simply better, and the database also looks less complicated with more options.
According to the features page of the Enterbrains site, there are in fact no more layers in the sence me and you know them. However, you can simply "pile" tiles ontop of others so you can use as many layers as needed to get the job done. I'm not overly sure if this is a step forward or backward though. Perhaps one of the most disappointing things about it all is that they made it too basic? If it is at all possible, of course. But I hope it still is as fun as ever to create the games rather then just play them. And speaking of playing them, more games should be finished now thanks to the quicker game making process.
RGSS2 also could provide even more possiblities! I'm not sure what the exact changes are from RGSS are but if anything, it will probably be able to handle more complex scripts to allow for many new features for everyones games.
Built-in transport & Dash scripts are sure to go down a treat aswell!
Deeply looking forward to the RMVX release as he upgraded to Vista and can't get RMXP to work,

PS. I didn't oversell it, did I?

This is from the sample game that will come with(?) VX.
I think you will find the scripts for that battle do not come with the RMVX but simply show what is possible with the scripting oportunities as it is shown just after they start to talk about the scripts.
Or maybe he got it from an RMVX blog.

It looks like event commands are going to be pretty much the same as they were before. I really wish it allowed you to create your own event commands :( I guess call script will have to do.
And yeah, those sample games are going to be included with the Japanese release. I do not know if they will bother translating for the English release, but if those projects are open then we can get the scripts and resources from them regardless. Here is the info I found on the sample games:

Stencyl looks very promising.
What more can I add about VX that hasn't already been posted?
If you want to discuss Stencyl, then go to the Stencyl thread (http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,17478.0.html). This thread is for RMVX discussion.
When is RMRK planing to make RMVX sections?
Most probably a month before it comes out. Thats way it gives people time to start organizing for its launch.
Also because near its English launch there will be more specific details about character, tilemap, icons, etc that people can use to start creating their own stuff. (not that their aren't those out already)

It shouldn't be merged. We don't have to limit discussion of an RPG Maker to one topic. The trial version release was a major VX event, and I felt it was necessary to create a separate tread.
Maybe not, but you'd think that if you have a news topic, where all news on something is supposed to go, then another topic with news seems redundant. It seems like it'd be better to have one topic with all the news rather than making a new topic everytime something significant happens and letting the other one die.
In any case, am I doing something wrong, or are ther really only two layers in this maker? Every time I try to place a new tile from any layers B, C, or D, they erase whatever other tiles that were there from B, C, or D. So, if I have a tile from B, I cannot place over top of it a tile from C or D. That's kind of really lame that they brought that restriction back.
I decided to make a very simple comparison of maps for RM95 - RMVX
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg527.imageshack.us%2Fimg527%2F7848%2Frpg95nj1.png&hash=3d6ff5e3fb3a3d3aefedda65f47c7abae8b9c358)

Yes, I'm sure it's quite a flawed approach, but... meh...
Also, I think RPG Maker 95 looks best... And you'd think VX would look the best... <_< >_>
Just so everyone knows, there is an English translation of the trial: http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,23364.0.html
Also, the full RTP has been posted on enterbrain's website. Since I cannot read japanese, I found it here: http://rpgrevolution.com/rmvx/download/
And I liked XP the most myself
Have you tried RMVX, modern algebra?
*dls the trial for comparison*
specifically looking for:
XP to VX script compatibility (or if it's easily made so)
waypoint editor?
can the sprites be made monsterous like in XP?
irregardless:
I suggest a VX competition to be held in the near future
(prob'ly when the cracked version is released >.>)
In my opinion I think VX has alot of upsides to it that rmxp didnt have like the vehical command im glad they brought that back from 2003 I tried rmVX and if they lower the price a bit it would be worth using but thats just me but if you look closly at the maps VX daos have the best graphics if you look at the pixulating and quality ya the graphics are down to gameboy color but the quality is much better :)
yeah...it's alright
I don't mind the interface, and I'm glad there's still scripting support
I'm gna mess around a bit and see if they made stuff any easier or what
I like 2k3 and xp graphics personally. although vx technically has the best quality, there's something a lot more real-looking and aesthetically appealling about xp. With the wee extra bits like curves in the rocks, or loose boulders or growing plants, it seems better than jagged, dead-set square tiiles that vx and earlier versions have....
God, Irock is being annoying. Now I can't use the words s-omething or c-orn. What a dumbass~ :police:
Anyway, I have tried VX, and I don't know what to think about it until I try the full trial version, if there will be one. I am still wondering if the tileset tab is really gone or whether or not that was just a feature removed for the Limited Trial. I am thinking that mapping has become significantly worse, though the autotiles are nice. There are fewer layers (at least in the limited trial), and so that's a major problem in my opinion. Also, if there is no tileset tab then I see nowhere to add terrain tags which makes terrain based events and scripts more difficult. The increased frame rate is a good thing. All in all, I see no significant benefits to VX, certainly nothing worth $100.00.
I see... Well, thanks for the evaluation. ^_^
Okay, i know what something is turned into, but i didn't realise corn was getting changed....
Anyhoo...
So far everyone seems to agree that the jump from xp to vx is not worth it, certainly not worth the money, yeah?
But what about a jump from 2k3 to vx? Would that be worth it?
Xp has removed a lot of features i like, like face graphics in speech and vehicles, and vx brings them back. Would me getting vx (after never having had xp) be a decent jump, with keeping a lot of the benefits of 2k3 and gaining some of the xp benefits, such as RGSS(2)?
Hah, VX is shit, anything it has we already did in scripts for XP.
Heh. I guess many doesn't like VX. XD
I agree with brady I would like to use VX but im not willing to pay a cent for its just too much a a hassle to wast money but for free I would use it its like a small small expansion for VX not big enough to really be labled upgrade more like a tune up lol
So the general consenus is that if you're using 2k3 and want to upgrade, just go to xp, forget about vx? Hmm....i guess i'd still need to find out more bfore i personally make that decision. It looks pretty damn good to me on the whole, but like i say, i'm on 2k3...
I checked those screenies and videos again...are the sprites in vx actually smaller than the ones in 2k3?!
I'm staying with Xp I don't like the characters in VX I've seen screenshots and they look small and chubby so I'll stay with XP for now
You CAN import your own sprites in VX you know... and they don't have to be small and chubby. :P
oh oops lol but I'm still sticking with XP for awhile I really like it right now
I already havea demo of that,
the character sprites are like to the char. sprites in RM2K
in the mapping layer, it is only one!!! there are 5 tile groups..
the first one is the overworld tileset
the second one is the outdoor / indoor
and so on.....
like RM2K, it also has the starting point of the VEHICLES!!!!!! boat, ship, and airship.........
upgraded database system, scripts, and many more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
all the graphics are very alike in the graphics of RM2k!!!!!!
i forgot the site where i downloaded the demo...
i'll just post it if i found it
2k3 has a number of those features as well, such as vehicles....
Anything that make vx particularly i]better than 2k3?
scripting

you know like when you get a new Sprite for your game and you import it in you rpgmaker? well just do that like take your characters from your current project and put them in rmVX atleast thats what I got out of it ;)

Cool! =D So the RMXP sprites are not thrown out after all.
That's interestin' enough....still wonderin' what the difference between the two rgss's are now.....
Apart from that though, vx is startin' to look like it has the beneits from 2k3 and xp....that's good....must find out more still....
There really is not much change in the scripting system actually. Only there's a line which makes every script ugly because it goes through the middle of the page. Of course, a lot of the classes have been modified and so are a bit different. But really, I have yet to notice a difference in syntax or anything (method definitions are a different color now :P).
Wow, I haven't posted here in a while!
I tried the demo of VX. It was pretty cool I suppose, but it was all in japanese so I had no idea what I was doing.
And maybe I am just wierd, but I like the little chubby sprites. ;D
Ya me too lol there kinda Classic and seem more like a game sorta lol
doas any1 know when excactly rmvx is comming out or is it still just some time this month?
There IS an english translation of the full version.
Don't ask me why i know.
You wouldn't happen know where to fond it would you?
I'll give you a hint. Go download bit spirit or any kind of torrent DLer *wink*wink*.
Then do 7 jumping jacks, scream my name real loud and the program should install on your PC in seconds.
lol....funny :tpg:
Lol torrents are the last way out.
Direct links 4ever!
With ya on that lol
They have six more days to release the English trial ;_;.
It's amazingly funny to see you guys wait for it
I paid for the Jap version and got a english Translatore from a friend :D but at least I paid
The website was updated with a materials section, but all that really contains is stuff that we've known for months from translation. The official english version is still not released.
Its been released, and to be honest, its crap...
no freedom to personalise a map, like XP had... and the sprites are gay...
the mapping side of it is very poor.
I messed around with it, and the whole system is very similar to XP, if anything, they've made it worse... like they took a step backwards...
...I'm very dissapointed.
I have been using it and personally I like it a few things are annoying but I like it...(mostly cuz it is compatible with Vista) :)
To be honest, i don't think I like their battle system that much aside from the fact that the animation was like 10 times better. I just wish they put graphics of your OWN character in their as well, not just stats only. =[
Thats funny i didn't have to wait. I already have the trial version english rpg maker vx. Its all good. I like it alot. Enterbrain did a good job with the program. See the thing is that the battle sistem is the same as rpg maker 2000. Its only has the dragon warrior battle system. What you have to do is copy and past the rpg maker 2003 battle system scripted into rpg maker vx in your rpg maker vx project. But it is that simple and easy to do. I have never figure it out yet. I have been experamenting with the programs.
