Title: Final Fantasy XII (Merged)
Post by: Blizzard on January 03, 2007, 10:20:31 AM
My friend is stuck in the Stilshrine Miriam. How to get past the first room? He has the Dawn Shard, but when he touches the Pedestal of Dawn only the Zombies appear.

Eguip the dawn shard to the leader of your qroup and use the waypoint.

Wow, how far in is that?

I cant beat the Dragon thingie at the end of the jungle...  :-\

Just after that. He told me the wyrm was the hardest boss in the game so far, so you won't have it easy there.

I thought that was pretty obvious.

I also told him it has something to do with that Dawn Shard, but since I didn't play it myself, I didn't know you could equip it, because it was an "important item".

Wow, how far in is that?

If you're talking about the Elder Wyrm, he's not as hard as he is lengthy.

Just make sure you're calm, and have LOTS of pheonix downs. He regularly casts a spell which induces sap. Which SUCKS. The very first thing you need to do in the battle is get the Elder Wyrm with his two ent buddies and start off a mist chain, getting as high as possible. (It's easy to get higher Concurrences. I've managed to get Ark Blast numerous times with only two people. -- If you don't count the fact they have all of their mist attacks) This SHOULD take out the Ents (or was it trent? err... the WALKING TREE THINGS) and then focus on the Elder. You should have taken out a good bit of his health. Just switch out one character and start another chain. Continue to do this until all of your mist charges are used up. If you haven't killed him yet, you should at least have done MAJOR damage to him.

NOTE: Espers are useless in this battle, considering the only one you'll have (unless you power lvl'ed) is Bellias. The Elder Wyrm will focus on you no matter what, so you'll have sacraficed a needed character for a small ammount of damage.

Now just attack. This is all you can do at this point. Heal all status effects with remedy or their appropriate cures. (Antidotes, etc.) If you are inflicted with sap, NO BIG DEAL. Just pop a pheonix down on each person that dies, eventually curing the whole team. (Make sure one person is healing while the other revives). Now, if a whole lot of people die, this is what you do -

Have two people in Party (alive) and one dead person. Revive and Heal. If all but one is dead, pray you can use that pheonix down fast enough.

Hell I can't even remember that boss. So far the game has been complete cake for me. =/ The only bosses that have been in any way challenging were optional bosses.

My friend made a 12-combo and got Black Hole as additional combo. He made like 25k damage to an Ice Elemental. And these guys are nasty! >.<

Nice!

The top two are the hardest to get. White Out and Black Hole.
I came so CLOSE to getting them with two characters. (3 charges each)
I had a 14-combo, but didn't have enough lvl 3's, that or it was lvl 2's, ah well.

I was about to cry. xD

Heh. I'm using them to power level on werewovles at the moment.

Lvl 15/14 (Penelo as guest) in the Giza Downs. (Begining of the game)

My goal is anywhere from lvl 30 - lvl 50 - maybe lvl 60.

Then I'll continue with teh game.

I need to go back and power level. Vahn, Basch, and Ashe are all like, level 30 and everybody else about 12. XD
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Blizzard on January 06, 2007, 02:54:45 PM
Lol, that exactly what he did. Although he didn't use Ashe, but Balthier.

BTW, another problem:

How to open the door in Sochen Cave Palace and how to stop the waterfall so he can get through?

Lol. That's pretty much what I did. I gave up on my original game and started a new one. Vaan and Penelo will pretty much stay the same lvl. (only 200 exp appart.) And all of the other characters will have the same lvl when you get them later on. Woot.

Less training for more result. (BTW: lvl 19/lvl 19 so far ^_^ )

So, anybody got the solution for the problem? My friend doesn't speak English well, so he can't figure it out on his own and I am here, about 300km away from him.

[A038]                        Sochen Cave Palace
==============================================================================

Take the right branch at the first fork and keep an eye out for a chest again
the east wall.  Continue north and stay very close to the east wall.  There
are some very dangerous traps in the middle which can confuse your party
members and potentially wipe your entire group.

There may be another chest in the northeast corner that you hit here.  From
there, go west as much as possible, another two chests may spawn around here
as well.  At this point your goal is simply to head north.  Be sure to heal
your party before zoning to the next screen.

--------------------------------------------
BOSS: Mandragoras - HP: 9069 (each) - LV: 37
--------------------------------------------

What a fun little battle we have here.  There are two entirely opposite
strategies to consider for this battle depending on how prepared you are.
Given that the Mandragoras run around the field and attack at random, it makes
it difficult to face this boss as you would any other typical one.

The first school of thought is for those of average level, or perhaps a little
underpowered.  These people need every advantage they can get and thus, don't
have a lot of room for error.  The best thing you can do in this case is
intentionally avoid the enemies and cast Decoy on your main tank (who should
be holding a shield).

Get yourself into an area as equally distant from every one of them as
possible, and wait for them all to come after you at once.  Try to get at
least four of them as close as possible, then of course, launch your biggest
most powerful Quickening attack to nail them all.

If you are in a stronger position, capable of dishing out heavy damage
quickly, you may find it more advantageous to hunt each one down individually
and pound on it as you would any normal foe.  Considering that they heal quite
often, the intense focus on one will allow you to wear it down before it has
any chance to counter.  Pick them off one at a time as you run around the
field.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Defeating the Mandragoras not only nets you 1000 Gil and Remedy x 3 from the
boy who gave you the Hunt, it also allows you to join the official Hunt Club
located back at the Phon Coast Hunter's Camp.  Feel free to return there if
you wish, though you can certainly wait to do so until later.

Take either the east or west door.  Make sure to heal your party.  Both paths
lead north toward a fake Save Crystal.  As you have experienced before, you
must defeat the bug in order to transform it into a real Save Crystal.  Save
your game and proceed east.

Go through the north door and make a right at the first fork.  What you want
to do is hug the eastern wall and continue in this direction until you reach
an urn with the cave's map inside.

Head north from here to reach the next screen.  Now, a secret room exists on
this map, but it requires you to take a minor detour.  From here, head back
south to the previous screen.  Now, run all the way to the far west side and
go north there.  Doing so should trigger the message "the course of the
waterfalls has changed."  You're on your way now.

Run north, a little east, and take the first northern exit you come to.  What
you want to do now is run east, through the door, and then out the southeast
door.  Keep going east from this door until you reach the far east side.  The
exit you want is NOT the furthest east one, but the second-to-furthest east
exit.  Take that one south to reach the falls of time again, and once again it
should say "the course of the falls has changed."

Run DIRECTLY south from here to reach the Mirror of the Soul again.  There are
a lot of paths leading north from this map.  You want the second-to-furthest
west one.  Take that and again, the falls will change.

Now for the final part.  Take the north exit that is almost directly above
this one.  It is the second-to-furthest west exit leading north to Destiny's
March.  Once again, go through the room to the east, and this time take the
very first exit south on the other side of the room.

This marks the final waterfall change.  The door leading south in the middle
of this room is finally open.  Open the Pilgrim's Door and get the chest.  It
will contain one of two things, either an Iga Blade or a Koga Blade.  Neither
is more powerful than the other.  Keep in mind that Ninja Swords will combo
far more often than normal weapons, so attack power isn't the only variable to
consider.

There is a boss battle with no save point coming up soon, so you may want to
head back and save before proceeding north.  Zoning from Destiny's March to
the Hall of Shadowlight will trigger the boss battle.

----------------------------------
BOSS: Ahriman - HP: 62149 - LV: 38
----------------------------------

You may find yourself spending much of the battle fighting against your own
party rather than the boss itself.  Ahriman uses a plethora of status effects
on each one of your party members, forcing you into a constant statue of
Esuna-casting and defending against confused allies.  Make sure you have a
full complement of status healing abilities before you begin.

The boss himself is able to split up into clones, all but one of which are
fake.  The fakes will go down in just a couple of hits, so when this occurs
just hit everything in sight until only one remains.  his other main attack is
elemental Magick like Blizzara and Fira, though someone wearing mystic armour
and ready with the Cura spell should be sufficient to keep your HP up.

This is one of those fights where if you can't seem to win, your best bet is
probably to level up more.  Given his lack of real weaknesses, much of the
outcome is based on your ability to hit hard between heals.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following the battle, make sure to heal your party, then take the east door.
You need to navigate a final passage filled with both traps and enemies, so
healing prior is very important.  Examine the pedestal at the top of the hill
and ride the lift out of this dungeon.

Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Moss. on January 09, 2007, 12:32:24 AM
They throw so many damn names at you and everybody's switching sides and espionage and I'm on the Leviathan. I don't quite understand why I came there in chains, or why the Marquis suddenly was all like "guards." I thought he was on out side, but then he's "not quite as nuetral as he used to be." Used to be good, no longer is? Maybe it was just a ploy to get him on the ship, so now he's ... good ... again ... huh? I really don't know because everything just happens so suddenly and I have no idea who is on whos side anymore.

And I'm also a little irritated because Vaan is just along for the ride and they treat it as such so there's never really any sort of explanation for you anywhere.
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: GilgameshRO on January 09, 2007, 12:39:39 AM
Yeah Vaan is like the worst main character ever. The real main chracters are Ashe and Balthier. They get most of the screen time and plot and stuff, while Vaan is just there. It's kinda... blegh.
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII

And just because you're English doesn't mean you have to speak every one of your lines in riddles, metaphors, or proverbs.

I like Basch the most, actually, I just wish he'd get some real armor instead of his vest and multi-colored hippie patch (you can see it if you look closely, its red and green).

Balthier is funny, I think.
And Vaan...

uhg.
The storyline doesn't confuse me at all, and it is a tad boring, but a nice change from the "OMFG mega villain gonna kill us all".

Also, Judges = Win.

Basch is a sexy sexy man. He needs more lines.

"OMFG mega villain gonna kill us all".

Something is wrong with you if you didn't find that sexually attractive. (or at least funny) xD

I don't think Vaan is SUPPOSED to have a main story. His "story" is that he is a kid with dreams of soaring the skies and gets his dream when he's carried off into other people's affairs. (due to his horrible theivery -_-)
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Lord Dante on January 09, 2007, 08:17:01 AM
Due to him being a nubcake, more like it.
I think Final Fantasy is unique in how it focuses more on what the characters are involved in, rather than the characters themselves. Also, its nice that they twist it so that the first character you have (Vaan), isnt nessecarily the main character (as Tsuno said).
Also, Vierra = hotness.

I liked it how it is completely different from all the other FFs. It doesn't seem like a classic FF game at all. But I can't tell, since I played it for like 3 hours and haven't gotten to see any stories. Interesting game.

you should definatley play it more.
also, remeber that if youre short on money, you always have the skill "steal"...

Does stealing work better than killing baddies in huge chains and selling the loot?

Well...I sell and steal =P It's a great way. The best place for loot so far (that i've seen) is on the way to the Erjuyt(??) village (the one with all of the viera).Steal and get the Coerul pelt from the Coerul enemies that you meet along the way. They sell for a good penny. (Sorry for the mis spellings. I can't remember the names -.-)

I can make 13+k in 3-4 trips to that part of the map.

(oh, and lavata, i agree)

I never could figure out how to make a huge chain. is it just how many enemies you kill in one map without opening a menu or something?

Skeletons? I can only get up to a 50 chain before they ... stop showing up as much.

Are you there on your first visit, or later on in the game. (If there is a later on in the game. I assume there is, but I'm not there yet, so if you are don't spoil anything for me.)

Also, I'm really impressed with how each character uses their weapons differently. Balthier tucks his spear under his arm and "punches," Vaan handles it like he's fencing (stepping in), and good god Penelo is so fucking hot with a spear. She uses her whole body when she attacks. Fucking pro, man.

A+
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII

FF XII really has alot of detail. For swords, Vaan is all "Ima hunch down an' get you when I wanna", while Basch holds it in one hand skillfully. yeah, youre right, pretty cool.

@Arlen-
There is a return to one of the mines later on, after you get some key thingie. Im not there yet, but i read about it and the map has a long tunnel on it that I can't seem to get to.

Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Tsunokiette on January 10, 2007, 09:33:07 PM
Kool.

I'm talking about the first time.

You don't need to leave the area after you pass over it once. Just turn around and walk over it again. Do this till they stop appearing. Then just go south two screens (takes like 20 seconds) and return to the twin-pass. (Only works for that bridge) And they're replenished. You can get a 140-chain easily. (of course all my characters are lvl 22-24, heh.)

The 99 bones (or whatever) sell for a large sum of teh money. Darkstones make up the rest.
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Moss. on January 10, 2007, 09:38:48 PM
Oh, so I guess that means you have to go two screens away to make them come back. Because just going one away doesn't work. Doesn't matter how long you sit there and wait (because that's what I do, too) they just stop coming.
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII
Post by: Lord Dante on January 11, 2007, 01:42:20 AM

Story? Theres a story?

Ive beat it and its the worse disgrace of all. battle system was horrible. If you thought holding down x in previous FF's sucked you should play this. withen a few hours of game play you can go up to any monster, and not touch a single godamn button and your party will fight all nearby enimies and heal themselves and you jsut watch. there isnt even a battle them to spice it up. you cant control were you allies move, so the dumbfucks run up to monsters 20 levals above you and pic fights. You can try and keep a ranger, magician, w/e but it wont work, i guarreentee by halfway through the game everyone of your characters will have the same weapons and armors because everyone can use everything. personaly i thought it made it sorta boring.

Storyline is shit. No charactor develpomen whatsover. Ashe was a fucking yuna clone! Vann was the boringest hero EVER. Balther was the only one with a soul, and he seemed a bit unorigional himself. And god i jsut wanted to kill pennelo the whole time, i hated her.

The dungeons suck! their all about fighting and avoiding eneimes, you dont even have time to take in the scenerary cause your too busy trying to get away from 8 enimies that have all grouped togoether and began to rape you with status effects. Limit breaks are WEAK by halfway through the game and so are espers, so then the game is REALLY boring.

The storyline just bores you to death. I didnt even know what the hell was going on through half the game. they try and make-up for having NO FUCKING STORYLINE at the end of the game by ending with a pretty cool 20 minute video, but as soon as you remembered how bad the rest of the game was then video isnt enough to save it. You litteraly dont ever press a single godamn button during a battle. and no battle music!

It allso sucks that you will be in battle and you go to select one of your allies to attack only to relixe, without warning they stopped to heal and are now a million miles away out of range.

I HATED it!

The sitting back and not doing anything is the Gambits. Turn it off.
I just got to the Valley of the Dead. I got to the Entrance of the Temple and I saved it.
I will play it again in a little bit.

( Dr.Sex... Badge what do you mean? )

This is an awesome game in my opnion. It also doesn't really have a LOVE STORY as other Square enix games did.

Whats wrong with love? Its an awesome thing, Id choose the girl over the treasure any day, because im mature enough, confident enough, and alph enough to admit it.

And as for turning gambits off, what would that solve. then your battles will take 20 minutse each because the game freezes while you select attacks. and if you have it set to where enimies attack while you select moves then it gets too hard, because the game wasnt designed to be played that way (I tried it) There arer too many eniemies and your guys attack really fast once you got all the augments (which is like a few hours into the game if you know what your doing) its just flawed. its either deathly boring, or it takes fucking 8 minuts to battle a a couple groups of skelies, or it is insanly hard. theres no "fun" way to do it. and its boring, you havnt beat it yet play through it more, the dungeons are the worst part. well one of them. and dropping romance isnt good when you also drop character development. at the end the character i was closest to was balther, and if he died i probally would have shrigged and went on. In ten it KILLED me when tidus died, it was HORRIBLE when aries dies, why? CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!

Yeah that does suck.
But I like this one, Its hard as fuck and I love challenges.
This game is like perfect for me.
I like Love in games but Final Fantasy had to many of them.
I love Kingdom Hearts all 3 of them. Best games ever I think.
But I also love a challenging game every now and then and I have not had one in like a Year seriously.
This game is like challenging.

We all have our opinions. Hey but you are right about the Dungeons they are to long and stuff.
Just to crazy I think, they went a bit far on that, but they made it a long game, so yeah I agree with you there.

The other thing is the licsence system.

Nabudis scarred the hell out of me when i went to get zodiack spear at lv 30. I had to run as far as i could with one person out and when they died switch and try and make it to the stairs. i got the spear but i died on the botttem floor on the way out, i was so pissed.
Title: Re: Need help regarding FFXII

I never even figured out where Nabudis was till I had the choice to beat the game.

I'm lvl 85+ (main characters, backup three are like 56ish) right now.

I first went into nabudis at lvl 76. I had trouble at that level lol.
I've come up with the perfect gambits now.

I'll share boss fight gambits this weekend. I killed the Hell Wyrm with them.
(Took a freaking hour of constant fighting.) Nabudis is a really great place to train at higher levels, constant cash and exp as well as a convenient shop to sell loot in.

EDIT : I've beaten the game. (great endings --- NO SPOILERS WILL BE GIVEN) At the moment I'm just trying to ubertize my characters.

I've got the Zodiac spear and Maximillian set for Basch.
Right now the Masamune and Maximillian set for Balthier.
and Save the Queen with Maximilliam set for Vaan. (I always play as Vaan)

I'm trying to get the wyrm hero blade (great sword) for Vaan.
I already have the Lu Shang's Badge. (took me a whole weekend to get -- included hunts)
Now I'm trying to get the God Slayer's Badge from Yiazamat.(sp?
It took me two whole weekends to kill almost all of the marks (includes elite marks).

All I have left is the King Behemoth. (I could OWN him if I could FIND him -_-. I know where he is, just having trouble with the difficult part.)
The Seer. (Taking sooo long to get the orbs.)
And Yiazamat himself. I killed Ixion while looking for The Seer.

And apparently I have to do the Yiazamat hunt before I can take Omega Mark XIII (sp?) for the last badge.

You had trouble in Nabudis at level 76? I was in there at level 60 (I keep all my characters the same level) and I just set up a few ice-weak: blizzaga; wind-weak: aeroga; holy-weak: holy; gambits and they drop like flies.

I'm purely melee. That and supporting magicks. I have every liscence (if you don't include some espers, have bought every magick/techinique. So I do when I have too. Usually scathe. I just don't usually like combat magic. I have to actually think when I use it. Not enough room with the gambits I already have set up.

And yeah, Halo's third evolution is freaking helpful!

That's part of the Patient in the Desert side-quest. Also known as the Barheim Key Quest.

Quote
=======================================================================
V. Sidequests
=======================================================================

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Barheim Key  [7.4]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
First you must complete the Cactuar Mob Hunt in order to get the Cactus
Flower, and be at a certain point in the game, in order to initiate
some of these events. When I first did this quest, it was right before
I went to the Feywood.

Go to the Dalmasca Eastersand South Bank village. Talk to Tchigri to
initiate a scene and chose to accompany Tchigri to the North Bank. Just
watch the scene here and you'll head back to the South Bank. Talk to
Dantro's Wife and she'll tell you that she threw the flower out at the
back of the house, so go around and examine the flower, to find out
that Dran regrew. Now go talk to Tchigri to take you back to the North
Bank, and return Dran back to his family and he will give you 1000 gil
and A puch of Wyrmfire Shot. Just head back to Tchigri, and he'll take
you back across to the South Bank again. Talk to Dantro's Wife and
she'll tell you that this time she needs some Senclam Shells. These
area really easy to get, some are found right by the water in the South
Bank Village, and more in the Banks of Nebra, which is one map south of
this village. All you really need are the ones you find right in the
village, and give them to her. She will now tell you that she needs
some Nebralim, which she thinks Dantro has, so now head all the way
South to the Outpost. Talk to Dantro and search the crates for a phial
of Nebralim, and head back to Dantro's wife. Talk to her to give her
the Nebralim, and then she'll ask you to get her some Valeblossom Dew
which can be found all the way at the Northern map of the Eastersands.
Just cross the river again (BTW just avoid the Cockatrice thing for
now), and head all the way North. At the Broken Sands area, go to the
cliffs and check the flowers for some Valeblossom Dew, and head back to
give it to Dantro's Wife. Leave for a while and come back to talk to
the Recovered Traveler, and he will give you the Barheim Key!

I beat the game and got ultima.

ultima is one of the toughest boss I have fought because she creates a field that can limit any command at any time and it sucks when she limits magic or attack but other don't matter except item at times. the enemys are not easy either. but once you got her you got the most kick ass esper except zodiac which i have no idea how to get to.

The hunt pyrolaster is hard also.the thing does 3000+ and need to heal a lot.

I am a freakin square nix fan all the way and love all the games.
I am also a nendo fan and love games on the gamecube. twilight princess is one of the best no matter what [maybe except resident evil 4 forgot if it was on camecube.

It's a great game. (People have their opinions)

The only reason there are gambits was to try something new.

Also, in some of the hidden boss  battles, without gambits? You'd be lucky to survive 30 seconds.

It's not a great game. FFT is a great game, being excelent across the board in storyline, gameplay, music, etc. FFXII is a good game, but not a great game. The battle system is fun and cool but it isn't for everyone, and the storyline is, well, almost nonexistant. Basically they give you a couple excuses to run around the world killing monsters and that's about it. The game was way too easy and ended very abruptly. Overall I think it was another huge dissapointment from Square-Enix. Well I guess that feels a bit unfair, they've made some pretty neat games but very few ones that were really great, but since their games have been overhyped so much one starts to expect them to actually live up to it.

I guess you have a point but this game is really final fantasy material. it has the magic doom and flare like most need it also has moogles, chocobos and secret boss[lots of secret bosses]. its also one of the best rpgs concider that nothing terrible was siad about it. The best pat about this game isno random encounters!!!Its the best dicisions they made since they made kefka.Scathe is the coolest magic attack in the game. I do not have it yet. There is a point that they started using espers again.
there is a esper named zeromus[ff4 last boss].Ultima is the most common boss in the ff series.

Is anyone ELSE a bit dissapointed with Final Fantasy 12?

Beyond the graphics and gameplay, which are superior, I DO miss the turn based combat.

BUT... my main concern is the story, which never seems to be hitting the EPIC proportions it could be.

We get SOME invasion at the beginning, but where is the danger along the way?  Where are troop movements and more invasion?

Nothing really ties me to the overall story, and honestly, I didn't connect with any of the characters.  INTERESTING characters, but just... fell flat.

Anyone?

Um, were the troop movements and more invasion that non-existant in the end of the game? lol

I'm pretty sure there was a lot of troop movement and such.
