HELP!!! SWITCHES OMG

I am trying to figure out how to use switches, local switches, etc. to make a treasure chest, for example. I have read several tutorials and I don't understand crap 

I would appreciate it with the burning fury of a thousand suns if someone could just guide me, step by step, through the process of creating a treasure chest that can only ever be opened once.

first page: open animation, play sound effect, give item, set local switch
second page: blank, condition that said local switch is set
