How do you make a color gradation?

Pick one color.  Pick another.  Pick a bunch of colors in between them.  Manually draw them in order on the screen.

Yes, there's a tool for that.

What is that? Using filter and blur it then re-sharp it?

Try Paint Shop Pro, nice interface, alpha blending, bla bla ... and of course, very simple methods of gradation.

Not as complex as Photoshop and much smaller (20-50 Mb), i'm using VEr.7 which is about few years old, but it is still the best...
