  "I stood before the field and waited.  I waited for something to happen, for anything to happen.  There had to be a reason why this field felt so familiar. A reason why I was so drawn to this place, a place avoided by everyone else.  I saw no answer here.  As I turned to depart this empty field, I sensed something. I felt as if I was being watched. I could vaguely see the figure that was watching me. It was no human... at least it wasn't fully human anymore. I can only describe this specter as a phantom of the past, a past that has been lost to me. It could not have been an image of my memory, for such lost memories were beyond my grasp, and beyond my knowledge. Thus, I began my journey. My journey to find my past, and to remove these phantoms from my sight."


     The past can be a horrible thing. It is especially horrible when you have lost all your memories, and yet are haunted by phantoms of your former self. To what depths will one go to remove these phantoms, what deeds will one do to remove these specters?

Background

    Abyssal Phantasm takes place in the world of Calus Enterminus. This world is an ancient and mystic place where magic flows through the very earth itself. The main segment of the game takes place on Rallshon. Rallshon is a large continent covered by vast forests, plains, and swamps, and with a vast desert covering the center of the continent. This desert is known as the Zurak desert, and situated in the centermost point of the continent is Zurak, the forgotten city. Scattered across Rallshon are the remnants of an ancient elven city, filled with ancient artifacts lost to mankind.

History

    Before the First Era of man, Rallshon was a glorious place, it's surface covered with endless forests, plains, mountains, and valleys. The elves lived in a large city, that was suspended in the air by the infinite source of magic that came from the center of Rallshon. All elves lived in prosperity in their city, protected from the natural dangers. The high council had recently seen arriving sea vessels through the usage of the great Alesian Crystals and felt confident that the passengers of the vessels could not see past the Gelas Barrier that protected the city from the been seen by outsiders.
    On these vessels were humans, survivors of a great calamity. When these humans reached Rallshon, they began colonizing it at a rapid rate. They destroyed many forests for wood, and destroyed mountains with mining. In one of these mining incidents, mankind hit one of mana streams. This uncontrolled surge caused many more area to surge out through weakened parts of the stream. With less magic flowing into the city, it fell. Without the magic to hold together, the city fell apart. Sections of the city were scattered across Rallshon and the sea.
    Then the Era of Chaos came. Cities and towns were razed by the chunks of the elven city, and large amounts of people were killed. Even worse, the mana that escaped into the world had devastating effects on many of the humans and creatures in Rallshon, creating the monsters that now roam Rallshon. A band of heroes rose to save the day. These heroes went across Rallshon, killing monsters and rallying the people, and building strongholds to defend against this new threat. These heroes single-handedly ended the Era of Chaos, and took reign over many of their people. Thus the Era of Chaos was ended, and the First Era began.




Author's Note: I've been working on the story and concept art, thus it is a little bare.

All 3D Modellers must use a program like gmax (free) or anim8or (free). Or any other application that can save to a file format usuable by anim8or or gmax.

no. The game won't be 3D. Too much work. It'll have 3D elements, though. Maybe facesets.
Or maybe certain scenes.

I thought about doing that with an old project once. Just make the scenes in an outside prog, record them, then play as an avi in RM.

I know that. I'm ust saying that I PERSONALLY thought about 3D movie sequences.

3D movies talk too much time. You have to animate them, create backgrounds... everything.

Currently I am planning on having the titlescreen in 3D, and the intro.

This sounds interesting.

Don't put me on the team, but if you need something done and it's within my ability I'll do it for you.

Stuff not in my ability -

Animated Battles.

^ That's about it. It isn't the CBS that I can't do, it's the fact that I can't animate sprites. I don't know why. I've tried many different ways from about every angle you can imagine, but I still can't write a decent animated_sprite class.

Though I should be able to pretty soon.

Thanks for the offer, I'll keep that in mind.

Currently, we are working on the story, and seeing if the sprite team can get a working prototype style up.
Looking at that, if anyone wants to help with the spriting, then feel free to sign up. Experience with the RTP is mandatory, but we are really looking for indivuals that can create original sprites in a custom style.
