Getting messed up pages (plain white and text)? Uninstall AVG

A number of people have been reporting a problem with RMRK where they see a messed up page without proper styling, just the normal text / images. It's been bugging me because I can't reproduce the problem myself. With a little help from Malson (who was getting the problem ) I've now figured out that it's AVG or some other tool named SurfShield.

AVG inserts some of its own code into the pages you load, quite literally to spy on what you're doing. When you see a broken page, you should see "avg_ls_dom.js" somewhere in the source code of it. This javascript isn't from RMRK, it's injected by AVG. They are such complete idiots that they cannot close HTML tags properly and end up leaving a HTML comment tag open which comments out where the styles / certain redirects are defined from the site. You see the main content because my own HTML comments eventually close their shitty broken one.

TL;DR: Don't just disable AVG in your browser, uninstall it. It's a piece of shit antivirus and stopped being good many years ago.

I don't have AVG, I have Microsoft Security Essentials. You know the one YOU told me to get?

Your move.

Gracie

I get that, but then it fixes itself like instantly.

So no worries.

Also recommend some better antivirus then.

I was getting this for a while now, but the maintenance seems to have fixed it. Sweet!

Also, can you recommend a better Anti-Virus? I mean, I don't think I've ever even had even a minute infection since I installed Win7, but in the event it deos happen...

Huh. This is strange.

Every now and then I get the same problem, but it clears itself whenever I clear out Firefox's history/cookies and such. I don't have AVG, although I'm stuck my parents annoying faith in McAfee.

I just started it happening, too, but it fixes itself in seconds. I use Avast!, and its never done it before. I just figured it was that new RMRK stuff that you were doing.

This for me too.
(Why do I always feel like it's the end of the world and I'm the last man standing?)

If anyone is still getting it after reading this post, let me know. I just disabled everything to do with cloudflare. I'm led to believe that it was cloudflare; I'd forgotten that I have hosts file entries for RMRK (bypasses cloudflare) and I never got this problem.
