So, today I did a few google searches, and everytime I tried to click on something, instead of taking me to where I wanted to go, it took me to an ad-site. My antivirus wasn't detecting anything, so I downloaded spybot to see if that could clear anything up. It found three threats, which I deleted. I figured "Hey, problem solved!" but it's still doing the same thing. Halp! D:

Edit:I tried using Yahoo and Bing. Bing works, Yahoo doesn't.

Cascading Dragon

Thats happening to me also. It's irritating me.
But Bing doesn't do that? Have to use them for now..

Sophist

It's a virus.

Use Combofix.

Had this a while ago. Can't remember how I fixed it, but try MBAM or ComboFix.

Found it: http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,37076.0.html

I ran Combofix, and it's still doing it. ;-;

Edit: Actually, I don't think it ran completely. It didn't give a log report or anything. I'll try it again.

Edit #2: I ran it again and paid more attention this time. The log report was being prepared and it blue screened. What do I do?  :'(

There may be some entries in your registry you need to remove- make sure you don't mess with that though, unless you've got some help from someone who knows what they're doing.

Temporarily: Make sure your browser isn't being run through a proxy. Some spyware will alter settings in your browser configuration in order to redirect you more consistently.

This is the sixth blue screen I've gotten in the past hour.
I'll be surprised if this actually gets through.
I tried system recovery to the earliest point I could. It didn't help. And now I have a bigger problem.
I can't deal with this. I don't want to lose everything. I was an idiot. I hardly ever back anything up. I've got so much stuff on here. This laptop is my life. Please, someone tell me I can fix this. :'(

Edit:Okay, it seems to be done crashing for the moment, and I'm almost finished panicking. :V
As long as it's running, I can live without Google for as long as I have to, but I can see that there's a serious problem somewhere.

Also, when you were being redirected: Where to? What was the name of the page it led you to?

Acolyte

It's a random page every time.

Arrow

Damn. I was hoping for a clue to the malware's name. : /

The day Emma asks Snake for help with a computer is the a dark one indeed . Maybe... Maybe I should call my wife.
It is absolutely imperative that you read this post in my voice!

MBAM should get it. Some malware tries to stop you from downloading tools that can remove it, so here's the installer renamed if that's the case :police:

Does it happen with other browsers?

Cascading Dragon

Roph, I love you :) Thank you sooooooooooo much

Acolyte

Ok, I ran a quick and a full scan. Nothing came out of either of them. I noticed something else. My Google toolbar is gone, and when I try to turn it back on, it asks me if I want to disable it.

I don't use any other browsers, so I don't know.

Cascading Dragon

Actually, now its back. I don't understand it... It left me alone for like an hour or two, then came back.

Roph

So try some other browsers?

Acolyte

Firefox does the same thing.
I ran another scan in safe mode, but the computer shut down unexpectedly before it finished.

Sophist

Please tell me you aren't using IE

modern algebra

Do a System Restore to back before you had it.

....But I like IE. :x
.... You have got to be kidding.
I am using FF 4.

Acolyte

Hey, it's worked fine for me for the past year. I'm just used to it. I don't like getting used to new setups.
Firefox seems to be working better at the moment, though. I'll probably keep using it.

Roph

IE is slow, insecure, has poor standards support, and is generally hated by every person who has done any web design in their life.
