Pixel-based movement vs tile based movement

Hi guys a quick question.
Does the whole tile-based movement bother you? (just like in RPG maker, where you can only stop on the tiles)
Or to be more specific would you prefer it if you could just move pixel-based or do you believe you won't even notice anyway so long as the tiles are small enough?

Note that what I have in mind is a side scroller 2D rpg and the tile size I have in mind is about the width of half the character or fourth the character if it will seem like a too large distance for a step.

I want to know if I should spend my time on a collision function that deals with the images on the tiles or I could go for the easier "let's just say tile X cannot be walked on and get this over with".

Thanks.
holy shit my sig was big!

I'm not bothered by it at all. Just make sure that the tiles aren't that big. The sizes your thinking of right now seem fine.

If it's a side-scroller I think it would bother me.

I personally think it's all down to your tileset. If your game is very tile based, with obvious tile repetition, then tile based movement wouldn't bother me at all.

If your art style was fresh, and less obvious, I would prefer pixel based movement.
I'm much too lazy to put an actual signature here.
