What? A Computer issue?

Basic simple problem.

A) if I'm connected to a wireless connection, close the laptop, and take it to somewhere else, it says "YOU HAVE NET" but then I can't do anything with it until I restart

B) if I restart, or start up from sleep mode, 9 times out of 10 the screen doesn't turn on and I have to toggle the power button repeatedly until it does.

I have updated BIOS and Drivers recently, and it still hasn't fixed it.
I think it's a hardware problem and I'm not sure how I can handle it at this point.

Anyone have an idea what it might be?
