Dragon Ball Z: Kai

i was watching reruns of Avatar The Last Air Bender and saw this advertised. I looked it up on the internet but found little information. And what information I did find made it out to be a remake of the original Dragon Ball Z series. So does anyone have any accurate information if this is a remake or new series?

It's a remake of the original series, with a lot of the filler removed. (Filler that was put in place because the animated series was being made at the same tie as the mange. See also: Naruto) I.E. Instead of Goku arriving on planet Namek in episode 54 or so, it happens around episode 30, and all the unnecessary screaming-while-building-up-power kind of crap is cut down. It's also remastered, so it's more vibrant, and the sound effects were also re-designed.

I'm actually interested in watching it. I've always wanted to watch the series again, but was always turned away by how incredibly long it is.

That was the first result in Google, I'm surprised you missed it.

Hm. I wonder if this has subs anywhere. I seem to like subbed anime better than dubbed, even though I'm quite used to DBZ dub. Not sure if I want to wait a month for dubs on nicktoons.

* arlen reaches back into the deep, dark recesses of his mind, back to when he used to watch anime.

It looks like the Freeze-subs and SD&Taka groups are subbing it (in English). Though it looks like Freeze-subs picked it up later in the series, so only SD&Taka have the first episodes.

From what I remember, Freeze-subs does really fast, but often hastily done work. The other group is probably better, but takes longer to release new subbed episodes.

*phew* It took me a good minute to remember my anidb password to look that.

Y'know, I watched the episodes where Goku was fighting Freiza. He was charging that giant fire ball for an eternity it seemed, and he looked like a constipated person trying to drop a massive load, crouching and going "NNNGGGH!!!" a lot. I wonder if some of those episodes were cut.

Anyway, I hope they didn't get rid of too much. Sometimes fillers are actually enjoyable, or funny.

Like the three straight episodes where they have the Elder Kai dancing around Gohan for the whole episode? >_>

Woa cool! So we dont have to watch Goku vs Tien for 3 episodes.. :)

I've been following Kai since it started. I never watched Dragonball Z all that much, all I'd watched before was actually end of Cell and beginning of Buu. I enjoy Kai and they actually do have some new animation as well as the remastered widescreen formatting. This was done to make it so that what they ended up cutting out still ran smoothly. I actually haven't noticed any difference of animation in the show, but the splash screens and the opening credits are obviously higher quality.
