"Tales of..." SKIT SYSTEM
02-08-2010

Summary
Umm, let's see... I'm a big fan of the "Tales of..." series, and I love how they use skits to further enhance the story. Now, I'm extremely new a using RPGMaker, but after some eventing here and there I began to think there should be a way to make a system similar to that of Tales. I tried to make it myself, but I don't know enough yet, so I've come to ask for help - in fact, I came across this forum in search of this script.
I'm not expecting the same thing, of course :D More than anything, I'm wondering if it's even possible. Thank you for your time!!

Features Desired
  • I'm not sure of how to explain it, so I searched for some videos in YT. I'm not so interested on the animation to make them "talk" as in the animated boxes themselves. Also, it'd be great if I could include half-body shots and not only head shots, as seen in one of the videos.
  • The text shoud go at the bottom, and the graphics in the middle of the screen.
  • The background shoud be darker and the game has to be paused when the skits begin. It'd be great the BGM music could continue playing, quieter of course.
  • Each skit would require a set of conditions to trigger. The geographical condition could be triggered by an area event, I'm guessing (which I've never done, anyway), but I don't know how to configure all the other conditions.
  • When a skit becomes available, there's a little icon in a corner of the screen letting you know. Pressing SHIFT or Enter could trigger the skit.

As for the graphics themselves, you would have the half-body img plus several headshots with different expressions, such as this.

Games its been in
  • Tales of Eternia
  • Tales of the Abyss
  • Tales of Vesperia

Did you search?
Yes, I've searched on plenty of webs in Spanish (my first language), and others in English. Of course, I've also tried with Google.

Where did you search?
  • RMRK.net
  • RPG Revolution
  • HB Games, etc.

What did you search for?
  • Tales of skit script
  • skit system
  • Tales of... scripts

I solve practical problems.
For taking arms in the name of your breakfast.
Um hi... well, this can be done with events, or at least, in XP it can be XD
tell you what, if your interested, let me know and ill make a tutorial, that way you might be able to figure something out.
What I made Isn't a true tales skit system, but its close enough.
There are no boxes with the charecters heads, but there are faces displayed in the text boxes. Everything else is pretty similar.

Oh yes, a tutorial would be great  I assumed it would be too complicated/take too much time to do every skit with events, not to mention I wouldn't even know where to start, but if you know a way, share it with me.

Right'o good sir : P
I wanted to use skits to flesh out my characters more, since single back and forth text wasn't good enough for me. XD

*EDIT* it is done, it can be located here...

although, this may be of no help to you, since VX has no terrain tags, but the parallel processes can help you out.
