Gourd is a side-scrolling action platformer I'm developing in StencylWorks.
You take the role of Henry Gourd, your average floating, psychic pumpkin.

Story

All was good and well in the world. Mostly due to new friends from a distant
planet. A year before present day, species from the depths of space arrived
in the world. They were identified as the Irides, and they came with apparent
good intentions of serving the inhabitants of the world. It's all one could
ever hope for; a kind species to serve as great help to whatever needed
done. As the months went by, more Irides appeared in great numbers, but
why would you complain? More help means a happier life.

It's present day, and the Irides are still assisting those who need assisted.
The friendly species is more than welcome to stay, and more are invited
to come.

One night, Henry Gourd was going for a stroll, taking his usual route
through the woods. As he was walking, he stumbled upon a group of irides
secluded and gathered, which is a very unusual site. Without making his
presence known, the skeptical gourd listened to their conversation. What
he heard was a plan to enslave all native inhabitants of the planet. They
spoke of the Irides rising and being the new rulers. It all made sense; the
Irides helping was all just a plan to safely bring their massive army onto the
planet in order to attack. Henry's the only one who knows of their sinister
plan, and he's going to have a lot of work to put forth until he is able to save
the world from the Irides.

Characters and Enemies
Henry Gourd

Henry Gourd is the main character in the game. He's your average floating,
psychic pumpkin. In his world, it's not odd to see floating fruits and other
miscellaneous food items and objects. He's just your average Joe. He works
your standard retail job, and he reads your standard newspaper while
sipping on your standard coffee. The only thing different about this floating
gourd is that he's about to embark upon a journey that no other person
would ever dream about embarking upon before. It's going to take skills
Henry didn't know he had before to complete his journey, and he's prepared
to learn.

The Irides

These eye like creatures come from a distant planet. They're the main enemy
in the game. These come in many forms with different behaviors and
attacks. Basic Irides fire plasma projectiles at Henry. In basic form, they can
be defeated simply by shooting them until their health is drained.

Flyrid

These Irides are equipped with a bottom propeller. Hitting these guys will be
more of a challenge, since they hover up and down to their advantage, all
while firing their dreaded plasma balls at you.

Ninjirid

So fast. So fierce. It must be a ninja. These ninja-style Irides jump and slash their
way through Henry. Unlike most Irides, Ninirides depend upon melee attacks
to defeat their opponents.

Eye Opener

Eye openers are stationary metal structures with an Irid inside. The "eyelids"
strategically open and close to reveal the Irid. When revealed, the Irid fires
its plasma at Henry. When hidden, the Irid will be invincible, due to the
strong metal structure that surrounds him. Your only chance at beating
these guys is attacking when the "eyelids" are open.

Optik Fighter Craft

The Optik Fighter Craft is an advanced, manned aircraft used and
developed by the Irides. The craft has fast speeds and is capable of making
quick maneuvers. On the left and right sides of the craft you'll find the
plasma canons. These can deal quite a bit of damage.

Not only does this serve as an opponent to Henry, he'll be able to take
control of these at certain points in the game.

All-Terrain Mini Plasma Bot

It''s mini, it fires plasma, and it packs a powerful punch. These robots aren't
the most advanced, and they move slowly, but their attack power is fair.
Keep an eye out for them.

Carrier Zeppelin

Bombs away. Carrier Zeppelins drop bombs from above. On top of that,
they can drop All-Terrain Mini Plasma Bots. It's best to destroy these before
they drop too many bots.

Plasma Missile Cannon

These double-sided cannons fire plasma missiles. They can take quite a bit
of damage.

Plasma Missile

These rounded missiles are shot from Plasma Missile Cannons. When they
hit Henry, they release a plasma explosion. Take these out before they reach
you, or try to dodge them.

Plasma Block

The Self Propelled Plasma Block (Plasma Block for short) is a block that moves
either left and right or up and down. A single Plasma Block can only move on
one axis. These speed back and forth. If one hits Henry, he'll feel a not so
nice plasma shock. All four sides contain lethal plasma rods that are a
nightmare to the touch. Take these out before they bump into you.

ATITS Bot

It's the All-Terrain Intelligent Tracking Spike Bot. This robot will follow Henry,
attempting to plow its sharp spikes right into him. It has no ranged attack,
so it's best to take these out from afar, when possible. You don't want to
be cornered by one of these.

Gameplay

The game is a side-scrolling platformer.

Henry can do an upward thrust (since he technically can't jump, because he
floats) when the thrust button is pressed.

Henry's standard attack is his Laser. It's fired from his eyes, and can
be charged. You charge it with the fire button. It does more damage
the longer it's charged. Henry can find temporary laser enhancements
that will improve his laser in a number of ways, but it won't last long.

Henry will learn other attacks as he goes along. Each non-standard attack
has its own use bar. When you use the attack, the bar will go down. When
the bar is completely drained, you can't use that attack again until you
refill it with a refill item. Use your attacks wisely.

Power-Ups

Power-ups are temporary enhancements to Henry. You obtain a power-
up by finding  power liquid. Power liquid is a liquid used and
developed by the Irides to aid them in battle. They're used like eye drops.
Power liquid is usually dropped by your enemies. When you find power
liquid, you'll be given a random power-up.

That is what power liquid looks like in game. It's a blue liquid in a clear
container.

Rapid-Fire
When you hold the fire button, you'll fire your current projectile at a rapid
machine-gun-like rate. This can come in handy for taking out more enemies
quickly.

360 Degree Rapid-Fire
When the fire button is pressed, you will fire your projectiles in all angles at
once. You'll be almost untouchable. Great for taking out mass amounts of
enemies.

Invincibility
You won't take any damage. Simple as that.

Frozen Attack Bar
Your attack bar for the selected special attack won't drain. You can use the
attack for eternity. (or at least until the power-up runs out)

Frozen Enemies
Enemies won't move. This is a good time to take them out.
