It's kind of awesome.
Ever since I found out that the mapping of the Pokemon world is based upon the mapping of Japan, I've been toying around in my head with the idea of a literal American version of Pokemon.

Enter Red, White and Blue Version. The mapping of this game will be based upon the United States, with Alaska and Hawaii serving as "Battle Frontier" and "Resort Area" respectively. In Satoshi Tajiri's style (creator of Pokemon, and supposedly Autisitc like me), the starting point of the game will be Westlake Town, a parody of my hometown, Westlake Village, California. Only one new Pokemon will be added (I suck at art): the Dragon/Flying type "Sameagle", the Patriot Pokemon.

According to the mythology of the game, Sameagle appeared to the American rebels at the battles of Lexington and Concord respectively to aid in the American revolution.

The villains? I'm thinking either Team Brit or Team Red. Brit representing England, of course, Red representing Communist Russia. I did consider the terrorists, but I thought it was too close to home for everyone (too soon). Plus there's no country called "Al Quedia" so that makes it a bit more difficult.

The Gym Leaders will all be named after founding fathers and mothers (George, Tom, Martha, Etc.) and the regional professor? Why, it's Professor Franklin, of course!

For game music, I'll be using Midis (to keep with the graphical tone) of classic American songs. Each big city and most routes and towns will have a song pertaining to it.

The 8 major cities in which you'll find gyms are:

-Los Angeles (I Love LA)
-Boston (Undecided)
-Seattle (Undecided
-New Orleans (When the Saints Go Marchin In)
-Chicago (My Kind of Town)
-New York (New York, New York)
-Montgomery (Sweet Home, Alabama)
-Miami (Surfin' Safari)

Washington DC Will be the home of the Pokemon League, and Philadelphia is where you'll face off against the villains, whose goal is to enslave Sameagle and use him to take over the world, using a magical force hidden within the Liberty Bell...

Of course, other towns will be included, and here they are!

-Westlake (Hometown) (California Girls)
-Las Vegas (Viva Las Vegas)
-Mineapolis
-Memphis (Undecided)
-Houstion (Undecided)
-Aspen (Let it Snow)
-Philadelphia (Stars and Stripes Forever)
-This is also where you'll find Sameagle, perched at the top of Independence Hall as a statue, who can only be summoned by the chiming of the uncracked Liberty Bell.

And yes, your Pokemon will have regional foods as health restorers (or lack thereof). They'll be replacing berries. IE, Phillie Cheesesteaks restore HP, but drop max speed. But a California Salad will restore HP, but drop how much a Pokemon likes you!

Anchorage is the home of the Battle Frontier(You're the Best Around), and Honolulu is the home of the Resort Area(Kokomo), where you can capture Heatran on top of Mt. Kilauea.

So, all in all, I'm very excited about this! I hope you all are too! As with my past games, posted suggestions and encouragement are more than welcome, as they make me want to work harder!

BTW, I'm not a hyper-patriotic nut, I just thought that this would be cool and fun. After all, Pallet Town is really the location Satoshi Tajiri's hometown in the real Japan.

I hope everyone else who's looked at this topic thinks so, too.

On another note, I'm wondering if anyone can guess the song I will use when "Surf" is used on the field. Remember, all the overworld songs in the game are real songs in MIDI form.

Hint: Beach Boys   ;D

Edit: 10/20/09
I almost forgot! The way to use it is a bit convoluted, but I will also have Mystery Gift items for capturing Legendaries not found in the main game! The Submarine Ticket, for example, will allow you to ride a submarine in Hawaii, which will take you to a seafloor cavern... where Lugia awaits!

Just an example. What do you guys think so far?

Winter is here.
I actually kind of like this idea. I loved the Pokémon games when I was younger, so I'm sure I'll dig this when it's released. At the very least, it will give me a profound feeling of nostalgia, which I enjoy from time to time. I also like the more lighthearted, almost parody-esque vibe you've given it. Sameagle = Priceless.

By the way, are you going to Americanize the pokémon themselves or no?

and the Elite Four consists of:

Spoiler for:

So that's what I have so far. Currently, I'm fixing up the graphics in the toolkit, since some don't match up to the in-battle and field graphics, but after that, I'll resume the story.

The story I've come up with is... well let me put it this way: If you liked National Treasure, you'll LOVE this game...

The 4th Elite Four is actually a 2x3 building that produces marines, medics, firebats, and ghosts.

Anyways, the idea sounds cool, but I'm waiting to see how well you execute it. :P

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. It didn't look right, but my browser spell check must've forced it.

No offense, but if these are any indicator of how well I handle fan games, you guys have nothing to worry about: ;)

Paper Mario Pocket: Future Shock!
http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,27884.0.html

Granted, I'm a much bigger fan of Mario than of Pokemon, but I've been playing Pokemon since Red Version, and every generation since then.  :gameboy: :gbc: :gba: :ds:

My only weakness when it comes to fan games is artwork. I need custom artwork of the characters mentioned above, so if anyone can handle that, I'd appreciate the help.

This is what I have for Professor Franklin. Not bad, but if anyone can do better, I'd appreciate it.

Status Update

Okay. I had a little computer trouble, but I was able to salvage the game files. After reinstalling Windows, and upgrading to Windows 7 (It's WAY better than Vista), I can resume work on the game. I managed to map out the game region, so I posted it attached. The game is looking good overall, but this is going to take considerably longer than Paper Mario Pocket did in actual dev time, because I have to define the encounters of all the Pokemon and the Time of Day to find them. I don't have an ETA yet, but keep looking here. I'll keep working as long as you guys post suggestions and encouragement. That's all I ask for.  ;)

By the way, I'm implementing a new feature never before seen in an official Pokémon game. Random NPCs in the game. I call them Location Gurus. Each one will tell you where and when to find four particular types of Pokémon, each pertaining to a certain type; water, grass, electric, etc. Look for them in every town!

Also, the game engine has a network trade feature built in, but I'm not 100% on how to use it. If it's that important to everyone, I'll implement it. Otherwise, I'll make every Pokémon catchable SOMEwhere in the game.

Finally, I'll have a SORT of Mystery Gift system. I'll start a new thread or possibly a small website for the game. From there, you will download either an updated or brand-new map file to replace or append the existing files in the Data folder. Just overwrite them, and follow the Readme to get the hidden Pokemon!

No it's a 2x3 building that produces footmen, riflemen, and knights.

The map looks very Pokemon-ish! I like it.

Okay. I'm considerably upset. I had to reformat my computer, and I THOUGHT I had transferred all of the game files. I was wrong. I lost all my media files, so starting over is barely an option. Should I just abandon this, or did you guys really want to see it?  ???
