But seriously, Link's Awakening and Link to the Past are what Zelda games should be like. Mysterious, mature, and ridiculously long and/or difficult. None of this ridiculous LINK FALLS DOWN BECAUSE HES EMBARRASED humor with wacky facial expressions and such.

Link matures in Wind Waker. It shows him going from a not so confident child to becoming the Waker of the Winds. The game becomes pretty epic (or whatever) as the story progresses.

Kokowam

lol hook up a GBA to a TV :tpg:

And yeah, I really want to play Phantom Hourglass. Thought that you were saying that you could play that on an emu, though. :P

Plus, I think I heard somewhere they're making a new Zelda for the DS? idk, probably just myths and whatnot.

Irock

You can emulate DS games

I don't think there's a DS emulator on Wii though.

They're going to release TLoZ Spirit Tracks for DS this year. Nintendo is supposedly developing a new Zelda on the Wii

Kokowam

I remember watching a youtube video on the timeline of Link and his games. It was pretty fascinating. :o And then I remember watching a video by the same guy who got sent an e-mail from the Zelda pplz that it actually wasn't meant to have a timeline :P

I played all the way through Wind Waker, it's a great game, and even if Link matures in the game, Phantom Hourglass is a DIRECT sequel, and he's back to being goofy and childish in that game.

So there. :p

I second this. I thought Twilight Princess was pretty mysterious and mature, I really loved the aesthetics of the game.
The new concept art is certainly looking to change the overall tone of the series methinks.

Have you even played any of the older ones? I mean, I can understand the complete lack of Zelda I and II in this thread, they were intensely difficult games, and they haven't held up too well against the years. But anyway, Link's Awakening was about Link being in a dream world, and trying to wake up, but if he did that everybody he know in that world would vanish forever. One of those characters even knew that, and there was this really surreal "where do the seagulls come from" dialog about whether they're just in this world, or maybe they're from Link's world, and "what will happen to me once you wake up?"
Then you beat the game, and watch the entire world, and all it's people, fade away forever.
That was awesome.

Not saying MM was a bad game, it's an amazing game.

Just saying LTTP and LA are better. :p

Also, MM wasn't that long. If you knew what you were doing, you could beat the game, getting pretty much everything IN the game, and only need to use all 3 days 3 or 4 times.

Man, I will be honest. I did miss Link's Awakening but I've meaning to play it for a really long time.

I did however play ALttP and I've never thought it was anything special.

NO
YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT
im not being rude but heres the thing
oot has the best story ever possible, better than majoras mask, another thing, majoras mask was made as a joke, not serious based.

oot has MORE action and MOre puzzles than majora;s mask and windwaker combined
oot has MORE characters
oot has BETTER weapons and items
oot also comes with masks, makes it alone better

OOT IS THE BEST GAME EVER CReATED EVER
-=Renegade has come=- so has your death

Kokowam

Not an OOT-elitist here or anything, I see. ::) lol :V I kid.

Also, one comment: In LA, pressing A + B at the same time to get those arrow bombs were, without a doubt, the coolest thing that my childhood self could comprehend at the time when I had it for my GBC :3

Hey kid your fanboy is showing...  ::)

I could never find a good rom of link's awakening and when I did I lost it. :P I haven't actually played a Zelda game in a long while so I can't actually say what had my favorite but probably it was Wind Waker because of all the other stories, as small as they were it was fun doing the side quests. The actual story I don't recall all that well but I thought it was pretty much just "Zelda" with the twist being that Hyrule is underwater. THey did an amazing job on Hyrule Castle.

I lvoed A Link to the Past, I've never actually beaten it though. I got to that last castle where you have to re-fight all the bosses and I could never make it through the dungeon, it's really confusing.
There's a storyline in it and it's actually kind of nice, but I think the tone and atmosphere make it great. For a 2D game it really nailed those.

Not really. The story is basically just "Save Hyrule from Ganon because he's a really mean dude." I don't think it's really expanded upon much after that. Of course, this is the story of almost every Zelda game and Majora's Mask story is just, "Save Termina from the Skull Kid because he's a really mean dude." It's the intricacies between the beginning and end that make the games and I would argue Majora's Mask just has a lot more to offer there. Besides, its story (in my opinion) is a lot more engaging and dark because of everybody's reaction to the fucking MOON crashing down on them.

Proof? The game looks pretty serious to me!

Quote

More action? The only action a Zelda game has is killing monsters and bosses which, I assure you, every Zelda game ever has equal quantities of. You can't argue the engine of OoT is better than the one used in Majora's Mask because it's the same one! If I had to pick, I'd say Wind Waker's or even Twilight Princess's were the best when it came to battles.

More puzzles? No, not really. Majora's Mask has a far more open world with puzzles everywhere with the mask/bomber's notebook system. Ocarina of Time has puzzles outside of dungeons too, but not nearly as many.

Quote
oot has MORE characters
You haven't even played any Zelda game other than OoT, have you? Even if this is a ridiculous statement (which it is), and OoT magically did have the most characters out of any Zelda game (which I'm pretty sure it doesn't)... have you ever heard the expression, "quality, not quantity"? At least in Majora's Mask the characters, at least the ones involved with the mask sub-quests, have their only little story that unravels as time progresses. My favourite characters from OoT were the carpenters which, shockhorror, were a lot better in Majora's Mask. The organ grinder was interesting too but you'd have to be a fool to think OoT's version of him better than MM's.

Quote
oot has BETTER weapons and items
Weapons and items in Zelda don't change all that much. I wouldn't argue any Zelda game has better weapons or items than another.

Quote

You're saying OoT's eight masks make it a better game? Masks that belong to a fetch quest, ie "Sell this, and I'll give you this. Sell that, and I'll give you that. etc." No.

^ I agree. I was thinking the same thing about the story, but I eventually thought that almost, if not all, plots/stories could be simplified like that.

I haven't played MM but I second thsi as well.
It's a pretty effing awesome game but not the best. I'm not doing to be redundant because what Chewey says is pretty much the truth.
WW definitely has the most NPCs, I mean..that game has them in spades. I'd say twilight princess is a second but I haven't actually finished it. Waiting for the 4th year for the price to drop. :P

Would it be worth emulating? I've been wondering if I should play it ever since I saw that video.

It's kind of hard. Your money is your life. Give it a try.

okay i can see where you are coming from
that masks part i said about ocarina of time, i didnt really say it right, i ment that ocarina has masks, but everything combined, the gameplay the bosses and the horse rides complete into a really nice game.

and the thing about having majoras mask as a joke, (well not totally a joke)
they had fun with the bosses, especially with the 4 moon giants, (i found that very disturbing)
and that u can turn into whatever u want, (or at least earth fire water and wind masks)

i really have no point of argument here really
its just that oot is better for my opinion, its more, Medieval for me
-=Renegade has come=- so has your death

chewey

Man, it's all opinions here anyway :o Majora's Mask is better in my opinion. I think it has more to offer but I could be biased!

Either way, OoT is a great game ;o
