I'm trying to create a note that is brought into the inventory screen after activating a mailbox. I'm trying to make it so that when I activate the note in my inventory, it will bring up a message (like reading a note from some one) I have absolutely no idea how to make the note activate this. I'm not really even sure if it needs to be a switch, a common event or what ... please help.

This is simple. Make a common event called 'note'. Make it activate after a switch is turned on. Make the switch name 'addnote' or 'poop' or whatever you want it to be.Go to the mailbox item and have it be a switch. Then select 'addnote' or 'poop' or whatever you named it from the list.

In the common event box, just make 'add item -> note.

Now I think I have this done the right way, but I need the note to appear in my inventory. In theory I'd like exactly this to happen.

1. Open/activate the mailbox and recieve a letter ("Note from Salvo") to be put in my inventory

2. Go into my inventory and activate the note

3. Game takes me to game screen with a message box with the contents of the note written in it.

Oh oops, forgot about the note's contents. You also make another common event for the note, make the note a switch(a different one from the mailbox switch) have the common event be called by the switch you assigned the note to be, and just fill in the letter. (and remember, the mailbox needs an event to add the note).

Alright ... I feel stupid I really do.

I have a common event called note. Now I need to choose a trigger which I have call, auto start, and then parallel process. If I have it set on call then I don't have a trigger switch option. And should I program the event to place the item in my inventory? And still even then I can't get the switch to actually activate ... I'm fairly new at this and I usually catch onto things pretty fast, but this is the one things that just has me stumped. If you could try one more time to try and explain it step by step, that would be great, if not, I'll just screw with it all night ... I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

Ok, nevermind I found a way to do it and it appears to be much less complex. Thank you for your help though  :D

Glad you were able to find a solution for everything. :3
