For those of you who don't know, the original Perfect Dark, AKA "God", is to be released on Xbox Live Arcade for about $10 this summer. So this is a discussion topic about that. As of now you can see "Perfect Dark" in the game downloads on Xbox Live, but it's not available yet and just has RP for the rating. However, you CAN download a PD theme for your console.

Do you think it will have online? Are you going to download it? And will it maintain that Perfect Dark feel that it had on the N64?

Don't feel constricted by the questions though, just say whatever you want about it.

Why pay $10 when I can just dust off my 64 and play it right now.

That would be a pretty fantastic reason right there.

Except playing them and still having a full screen so you don't have to squint, in my opinion.

Yeah, but i'm not gonna buy it regardless. Now if Goldeneye was released...

Thanks Animefan. I'm not going to derail your thread simply because it's you who posted it. I was unaware that Perfect Dark was coming to the arcade and I'm glad to hear it. Of course, I would have found out eventually anyway, but regardless thank you for letting me/us know, and yes I'll be getting it.

We were derailing the thread?

That's not really what I was saying at all. Go back to crying over your rep.

Actually i'm going to try the demo of this first, it all depends on how the control feels. The 360 sequel to perfect dark was awesome too.

Never actually played Perfect Dark, but that's so true about Goldeneye. I've watched Perfect Dark being played til midnight, while probably eating chips, but have never played it.  ;9
I always forget how awesome the Arcade games look, and how many good ones there seem to be. I wish I had one....

Update information (from wikipedia):
"On June 2nd, 2009 Major Nelson announced via Twitter that Perfect Dark is scheduled for release on the Xbox Live Arcade in winter 2009. Confirmed additions include 1080p HD resolution and an improved frame rate. The port is being handled by 4J Studios. [41]

On June 5th, 2009 it was confirmed the port would offer updated visuals, local multiplayer for up to 4 players, online multiplayer and a leaderboard system.[42] Four screenshots were also released."

First four screenshots are viewable here: http://www.shacknews.com/screenshots.x?gallery=12205&game_id=7626#img136483

So they are doing regraphics though. As you can see, they've already given the original SMG a makeover. I just hope they don't give the whole game that "gunpowder gray" tone that's ruined the looks of many other otherwise great 360 shooters.

When I heard about this when it was announced I was so happy. PDZ was a good game one its own, but nothing beats the feel of the original. I'm so glad they're not only adding content and features, but actually going back and updating the textures. Now the faces might not look like random smudges anymore.
I had a lot of split screen parties with this game back in the day, and it's great to be able to play it online now. The simulants made local split screen feel so much more massive and chaotic than just 4 people.

On another note, I wonder if they're going to change the aiming style.
In the original you had to hold R to manually aim, but the AI wasn't smart enough to move in the 5 seconds it took you to lock on him and fire. I'm hoping they just scrap that and fix the sniper zoom as well. The original zoom looked like the camera was moving forward slightly and it wasn't really a "Sniping" perspective.

I just played the original a few hours ago, and yeah, wow, the 360 port looks so much nicer.

I might get this.
