I've written stuff that has random vampire characters, but its never been about the vampires. So originally, I wanted to write a revenge story against the vampires. Then when I was plotting it out, it turned into something different.
Three best friends attend a standing room only concert. Two of them are a couple that have dated 2 years and the guy is ready to pop the question on her birthday in a month. At the concert, they have fun getting split up in a sea of people. The guy breaks off from the two female friends, and his soon to be fiance tries finding him in the crowd. She catches a glimpse of him happy to see her, before the people swallow him up again.
The next time she sees him, he is dead on the ground with two punctures in his neck. As the heroine is down by her dead boyfriend she picks up a creepy little figurine off of the ground.
Standard vampire mystery, but now it gets twisted. A thousand people are there, but no one witnessed a thing. Soon after is his funeral, a closed casket funeral for a man that only had two punctures on his neck. The police justify the closed casket by telling her that whatever punctured him had a venom that disfigured his face. She doesn't think that is the case. In the background is a mysterious man watching from next to a Moslem smoking a cigarette.
That night, she convinces the best friend to enter the cemetery with her and dig up the casket. Fresh ground and rain make shoveling easy. Just as the heroine reaches the casket, the police arrive to arrest them both. The heroine opens the casket to discover there is nothing in it. No one else gets a chance to see what's in it.
The heroine asks the police why there was no body. The police say that she never opened the casket, so how would she know? There are either no charges pressed or hours of community service. Both women are released, but the police recommend the heroine get some therapy for trauma and her friend have better judgement.
After that, the heroine spends the day in bed, then she spends the week sleeping, she's only awake to call the police for updates and watch the news for segments on what happened to her would be fiance. Her best friend, who is also a coworker calls her and tells her if she isn't coming in to work at least call.
Her best friend shows up at the heroine's apartment, but is never let in. So the best friend camps outside her apartment door until she is let in. She is never let in, instead the heroine has a dream of her dead boyfriend.
The best friend finds out days later that the heroine quit her job. The landlord is pounding on the door day after day looking for rent, then threatening eviction. The heroine then tries to commit suicide. First by cutting her wrists, but its too slow and she wakes up in her bedroom. It was a dream. However, then it is revealed she had cuts on her wrists that have recently healed over.
The landlord evicts the heroine, but when the eviction happens, the heroine is nowhere to be found. Instead there is just blood in the bathroom and on the pillows. The best friend happens by the apartment in the process of the eviction and gets to see the blood. She calls the heroine's cell phone and leaves a voicemail, she knows about the eviction and the heroine should just live with her now.
Days pass until the best friend is woken by a phone call with no one at the end. For a moment there is silence, until the heroine says she needs help. She failed trying to find her boyfriend's killer and she needs to get picked up. The best friend picks her up at a pay phone.
The heroine wants to live with the best friend and get better. The best friend notices the ugly little figurine that the heroine has kept all that time. That night, the best friend is asleep, but the heroine is wide awake. She begins to go through the best friend's pictures from the concert. That is where she finds a photo of her boyfriend being killed by a blur of a person! She freaks out, wakes up her best friend who takes a look at the picture still in a sleepy daze and tells the heroine to just drop it.
After that, the heroine shows the police the picture and there is no blur of a person in the photo. It is just a photo of the dead boyfriend, they even get a second opinion. There is no one else in the photo and the heroine realizes that now. She then agrees that she should get therapy.
She sees the therapist, and as the therapist talks, the heroine zones out. Spider web cracks form across a wall, then the floor and eventually a man in dark clothes steps through them. He has long black hair and he looms over her in the doctor's chair. The heroine freaks out and needs to be sedated with a needle.
Later on, her best friend picks her up from the hospital. When she freaked out, she bumped her head on something and needed medical treatment. The heroine gets angry with her best friend for telling her to drop things. The heroine asks what her best friend saw in the picture. The best friend saw nothing. She didn't see one way or the other if there was someone in the casket or not in the casket. She was too distracted by the police and remembers the heroine saying she couldn't open the casket. She says that everything that is happening is all in the heroine's head.
That night, when the best friend is asleep, there is a power outage. The heroine goes for a walk through her darkened building, there is a shadow watching her. The shadow disappears, so she follows it out of the apartment building to the street. She chases the shadow until it disappears into a blackened alley.
Before she can step foot in the alley, the shadow is behind her. He asks why she's following him. She asks the same question. Then he explains that he has seen the nasty little figurine before. He remembers seeing it worn by one of the patrons at his small shop in town. He invites her to come to his store and he will look through his rolladex to see who it was.
The next evening after the best friend is off of work, the heroine takes the best friend with her to the creepy shop. When they enter, time stops for the best friend allowing the mysterious shopkeeper and the heroine to talk in private. The creepy looming shop keeper dressed in black knows who wore that figurine around her neck. However, he will not give the information. No bribes, no money, no fancy things, he wants to drink the best friend's blood dry.
The heroine freaks out, grabs her best friend by the wrist and bolts out of the store. The best friend is severely confused, because in her mind, they just got there and the shop was empty! The best friend tells the heroine she really needs to see a therapist, but then when they get back to the best friend's apartment, the place is ransacked. Everything is turned upside-down and strewn about the apartment.
The best friend walks into her bedroom to discover two assailants are still there. They take her captive and the heroine enters with them tormenting her. The heroine then bumps into the shopkeeper dressed in black. The two men are busy setting fire to the apartment when the dark dressed shopkeeper tells the heroine, he'll deal with this. He then shoves her aside and closes the door behind him.
The heroine is forced to run when fire alarms go off and everyone in the building begins to run down the staircase. Police and firemen arrive and find the heroine outside the burning building. Once the fire calms down, paramedics bring down the best friend, dead with punctures in her neck and burns all over her body. The police say she's a suspect and arrest her then and there. That is two people dead the same way with the heroine around.
I think I will leave off there and wait for feedback :-)
