(Get ready for a huge post :tpg: )

Back in the day I used to write music for tons of RPG Maker games. Not just for the projects here, but at many other rpg maker sites as well. Of course, not a single one ever got completed (to my knowledge) and as such, a large quantity of music ended up sitting in a folder on my hard drive, never to see the light of day. Okay, that's not entirely true. I did reuse several themes in an attempt to find them a use.

Anyway, somehow in IRC we got to talking about this a month or two ago and I said that in the summer I would begin posting this stuff, and would even rewrite some of the older songs to put them in a more usable state. So, it's summer now, and I'm going to start doing this.

Now, some of these are admittedly amateurish. This is, of course, because when I wrote them I was an amateur. But that doesn't mean they're bad and completely unusable. There was a reason people asked me to write for their games, after all. :ego:

Today I'd like to start with something that I was disappointed to see end. In fact, I stopped writing for this project exactly three years ago today. This was sort of an awkward phase in writing for me. I began wanting to write in larger scope, rather than just for video games, so my music began taking this odd shape where I was experimenting a lot. So, enough babble about it. Here we go:

Chaos Project: The Three Moons

Yes, this was a project by the infamous Blizzard. I'm not exactly sure if he abandoned it, but I stopped writing for it because progress stopped being made on it. I was sad to stop work on this project, but I've managed to use one or two of these themes in some of the orchestra music I've written, so it's not a total loss. :)

*Overture: Something Blizzard and I discussed was the use of music specifically written for cutscenes, so that the music would fit the intricacies of the scene, rather than just using some loop. These cues were intended not to be looped and would end with the scene, something RPG Maker games should use more. Anyway, I had literally just gotten Garritan Personal Orchestra, so I decided I would use it for cutscenes, and a soundfont for the regular tunes. This was for the opening scene of the game. I was also very new to recording, so uh... yeah.

*Dark City: Since the game was futuristic, this gave me a chance to be a little more creative, though listening to this now I wasn't as creative on this one as I should have been. Nice town theme, but not great in my opinion, though this was one of the more popular tracks from this project that I showed people. Whatever.

*Decisive Action: By far this was the best piece of the project. And for those that I've let listen to it, it's one of their favorite pieces of mine. This was for an action chase scene... thing.

*Battle: Not much to say for this. It's a battle theme.

*Battle 2: Something interesting Blizzard suggested was the option to let players choose which battle theme they'd like in their game. He wanted me to write 3 or 4 different ones and before I could get that far the project was abandoned. I got to the end of this song, but never went back to fix things up, so it's only about 90% complete.

*An Early Grave: Game Over music.

*Got Away: Dumb title, but pretty neat. This was written for a cutscene, which happens after the chase sequence. The player escapes into the sewers and this cutscene plays out. This is a variation of the sewers music which comes next. This definitely works better in-game, but I like it.

*Into the Sewers: Yep.

*Victory Fanfare: I am admittedly pretty bad at victory music.

*Chromatic Death: This was the boss music of the game. This is actually one of many versions I've written. I tried using this in several different RPG Maker games, but of course, none were completed. This one isn't my favorite version, but it is pretty good.

*Main Theme of Chaos Project: The Three Moons: Ironically, many of the themes used in this song were not written for this game. They were taken from the very first piece of music I wrote, and I have since used some of them in other pieces of work I intend to publish. This was the overworld music, and Blizzard wanted it to be fairly long.

*Jungle: By this point I really had no idea where the game was headed. I knew we needed Jungle music for later down the road, but I had no idea when. Since I had nothing else to write for this game (other than title screen music, which I never did) I wrote this.

*Incantations: This song is similar in that I knew we needed something like this, but I had no idea when or how exactly it would fit in the game. I'm not even sure if I ever showed it to Blizzard. Interestingly, this is a reworked version of a song I wrote for the Guilds back in 2005.

*The Fierce Battle: I also knew we needed something for special boss battles, so I came up with this, and I really like it. The last section of the song has quite a bit of history to it, but I won't get into that today.

Well, that's all for that project. I will be posting more hopefully in a few days. If anyone wants to use these for their game, you are free to do so, of course with credit to me. If you need a MIDI instead, I can provide you with that (with the exception of a couple songs).

Wow, even three years ago, you're still so much better than me. XD The victory fanfare seems to long to me, though. :P To be a victory fanfare, that is. :p And too short to be a full thing on its own XP

And long main theme is long. But cool. :)

I also like the small bit of history you tell us about each piece. :)

All in all, these are all <3

Month old bump, but it was only 3 threads down, so no harm done. :>

At 0:36 I was expecting Rudess to break out into a keyboard solo.

That's all.
