Wow, those are really cool!  I didn't know there was a 3D program for public use... :o
Um, there's a lot of them actually. Maya, 3dsmax, Zbrush, and more.
They're not free though.

There are, in fact, many. I used to use Poser and Bryce 3D back in 2003. I'm sure there are much better and more powerful programs you can find [legally or otherwise] all over the place nowadays.

the claws give me the impression he is trying to type on a keyboard. Their angle seems slightly off. Also shouldnt the back legs have a bit of protection. They look flimsy compared to the front

Damn I love those textures.
I love how smooth it is as well, I think the yellow eyes fit perfectly to it though

Well, everything mortal has a weakness. If it didn't it wouldn't be realistic.

I like the yellow eyes too. Good job. :)

Their tops are made out of rubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs

yeah, all I can say is that the claws are curved back a little too much.  Claws that long would dig into the ground as the pad of the foot lays flat, at least that's what it seems like it should be doing.

Other than that, totally amazing.

Do you draw all your texture maps from scratch? I remember that texturing was the most painstaking/annoying part of doing 3d. Yours is very impressive.

Thank you.

I use a combination of photo-manipulation and painting.  Also, lighting affects the look of the textures substantially.

Sweet job, gary :3
So I assume you used photoshop's 3d layers for the textures?

Sometimes I wonder how 3d texturing actually works. :|

It's kind of hard to explain with words, but basically, you use the 3D program to "unwrap" the object you want to texture.  It's like taking a Halloween mask and flattening it out.  The computer gives you a grid that you tweak until it is in a shape that resembles a flattened out version of your model.  You then export the grid and use it as a guide to paint your texture in Photoshop.  You then export the texture from Photoshop and apply it to your model as a material.
