My laptop was working fine the last time I used it, but my mom said that when she used it, at some point when she was using it, it shut off. It then restarted and then brought up a screen saying something like "The computer didn't shut down properly" or something like that, and gives me 5 choices:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (your last settings that worked)
Start Windows Normally

Every one I try leads me to a "blue screen of death" and then it shuts down, restarts, and goes back to that screen. Anyone know how to fix this?

I use Windows XP.

Take the error message on the BSoD and look it up on another computer. That's how I managed to fix my comp when I got the BSoD.

I had the same problem, they had to reformat the whole computer. So everything was deleted to remove all threats. That's how I fixed it, but this isn't the best solution.

I can't, it only shows it for about 2 seconds. ;9

Well, maybe that might end up happening. Hope not. ;9

2 seconds is more than enough time to read a message, if you cant read it all in one go write down what you read and go again.

this is one of the ocasions where i suggest a reformat. windows isnt written smart enough to keep an error message up for a readable ammount of time.

If you have your windows xp install disk a repair install might be better then a full reformat.

It's configurable, though I'll give you that it's probably silly that the default configuration is to immediately reboot.
