I want to know if there is a way in XP to get rid of the colored boxes around the icon names.

I'm running Windows XP Professional x32

Edit: And if you know; how would I manage taking my recycle bin off my desktop?

Right click my computer -> advanced tab -> performance settings -> visual effects tab -> use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
