Alright, this is a simple but not too simple shading effect.
First, add a new layer and choose brush tool. Pick a DARK color, and draw according to lines. See the pic below to see the size of the brush tool.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example.jpgNext, shape and clean them using eraser tool. Also, name the layer ‘Clothes’ so you won’t confused. See the pic to see the size of the eraser.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example2.jpgNext step, add another new layer, more shading with brush tool but this time, lower the opacity and bigger size.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example3.jpgAs usual, use eraser tool to make them neat. See the pic for the size. Also, if you want a more skilful result, you can use smudge tool for shading.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example4.jpgI forgot to tell you, but you probably already know this. For an easy-clean up, use magic wand. Just click on the background layer and then click on the side you wish to clean. Next, just click on the layer (for example the clothes layer, if you want to clean the messy there) and press ‘delete’.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example5.jpgOkay, simple shading is done. Next is the lighting effect. Add new layer, use brush tool but lower the size, pick a light color and draw the lines on the side where lights come. Don’t press so hard, it’s only a soft lighting.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example6.jpgNow, merge all the layers and use burn tool on the left side to make the picture more alive. Don’t use too many burn or it’ll burns your picture. ^___^
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example7.jpgAlso, this is only a tip, but I think this will make your picture better. Drop Shadow. Add a new layer, use brush tool but this time with bigger size. Draw the shadow on the left side where lights don’t reach. Then, as always use eraser tool to clean up the messy.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example8.jpgOkay they’re technically done, but for a more satisfying result you can use smudge tool on the shading. Sorry if I messed up your words, Jappy. >_> Usually, I would use the magic wand tool to clean the lines but I don’t have your original Non-colored Background so this is as much I can do.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/example-done.jpgSkin shading is no different. Now, it’s your turn.
http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/emidy/khflower.pngTry do shading on Namine. Perhaps you can do somethin more creative. =)
