I'm in need of this community's appropriate and helpful advice on my WIP. The screenie is a bit outdated [I've done Sora's hair and eyes; and Clouds other eye] but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Currently using Photoshop CS2 but was using Photoshop Elements 2 while doing the skin.

The hands and arms look too small, and the shoulders on sora and cloud need to be a little bigger and the guy in the middle, as the heads look a little too big.

But thats a really nice drawing ^_^

ReaperEX

Nice work!
What Link said is true.
Personal opinion that the heads looks like skulls with skin and no meat.

@Link: Thankyou! I'll keep those anatomy tips in mind when for next time (I've already inked and coloured most of it, it's too much for me if I started again T^T). I'll update the pic when I've done a decent amount of colouring ^^"

@Reaper: I see, I'll practice a bit with my heads when I'm back in school. Thanks for pointing out ^^.

Anyone have opinions on colouring? Not saying that anatomy tips aren't wanted, I'm just focusing on colouring more atm ^^"

Arwym

You should color some more before we give you tips.  That will give us a better idea of what you are trying to do.  :)

Winged

Alrighty, but until then, any tips with shading clothes [Cloud's]? I don't feel like reading a whole tut, just listening to some tips ^^

For clouds, just use a slightly light black for where the light is and a normal black for shadows, and also try adding some cresses where the body bends, elbow, sholders etc for all of them.

Yossy

Y'know what's super fun to do while rendering (shading)?  Using darker colors in different hues than the base color...  Like, the base color for the blond guy's clothes is black (not pitch black, but a dark grey that implies black), and you'll be able to add some interesting rendering by making the shade color a dark purple or maroon instead of black.  Does that makes sense?  I'm bad at explaining.  Lemme make some quick images to show an example.

(I made this really quick just now, sorry for the sloppiness)

The sphere on the left is what you'd expect rendering to look like, but if you observe nature closely you'll see that this situation rarely ever occurs.  Colors reflect just as much as light does, and they interact with nearby objects that they're not even touching.  I used blue as my example, but you might want to experiment with other colors that show up in that pic.

It's not a technique that one has to use, it's just something interesting and dynamic that can really change the entire appeal of the image in a subtle way.

emidy

Simple, what Yossy means, you can experiment different colors for shading. Not always a boring color the same as the base color. =)

But from what I see, you only need to darken the shading by using burn tool.
You're doing well.

garygill

Yossy suggests a great tip.  But it's not always a good idea to make the shade colour too different from the base colour.  This technique works best if there is a strong secondary light source such as the subtle blue light from a clear sky.

Winged

@Link: I'm not great with folds and shading, especially if I haven't drawn them in beforehand ^^"

@Yossy: I've seen lot of people who use that technique and  their stuff looks great. I might try that with this or with some newer stuff. Thanks ^^

@Emidy: Burn and lighten tool ftw! :3

@garygil: Is that so...I'm getting idea's rushing into my head now  ;8
