I learned to play guitar through guitar classes in school and in the local music school. If you have something like that, try to start in a class , or buy some " Learn how to play guitar" books. They are helpfull.

One of the books you can use and i'm not calling you one, "Learn to play Guitar for dummies" it has some basic steps you could use. Also you could maybe find a teacher who would take the time to teach you like if you got Band class ask the Band director maybe he/she will be kind enough to stay after school and help(Well if your in school).

Do you have a mall with Borders or a Books-a-million around? I've seen some in those places.

Returned from the dead.
You can also get DVDs. I've got one and it's taught me a bit. If there's a specific song you want to learn, search on youtube or something

your best bet is to go to ultimate-guitar.com and learn to read tab from there learn the most easiest songs you know then go onto trying to play some more difficult stuff once you can manage it. acoustics hard compared to electric. electric is much more fun. and bass overall is more fun :-P
