Death Conditions

Although RPG Maker has a built in Death condition, I want to make a set of death spells that only effect certain types of monsters.

By this, I mean that say for example I'm fighting a Tiamat, a Demon and an Elf. I would classify these monsters as Dragon, Oni and Demi-Human respectively.

For this I would have Dra-D, Oni-D and Demi-D conditions, and each would be susceptible only to the Death condition specific to their classification. However I can't copy the death spell and I don't know how to create conditions identical to it.

Is there actually a way to do this, or is my idea too far fetched for it to work?

I'm using 2K3. Tried to get XP but couldn't find a working download.

Hi, there.
Hello and welcome to Crankeye.

Here is our main page with downloads for RPG Maker XP (two versions). It's your choice of which to choose.

Good LucK and thanks for joining RMRK!

Yes I know about the download page for the different Makers, however the download link for XP didn't work for me. I'd prefer to work with 2k3 anyway. Whatever little experience I have with RPG Maker, and I do mean LITTLE experience has been through 2k3.

So I'd rather stick with the problem at hand through it. Thanks though. =3

Another query though on the topic of 2k3: I downloaded the terrain chipsets from the resources page, however I can't get them to work. It says they're unsupported, even after using the same technique that I used to make all the charsets, weapons, etc. work. How can I get them to work?

after saving them from the internet to your computer, importing them SHOULD work fine. Did you do anything out of the norm? I used to use the RPG Makers a fair bit 4 - 5 years ago, and I'm just getting back into it, and my experience with chipsets and stuff is that they're very easy to mess up, but if you're using one you downloaded it shouldn't have a problem.

A few years ago I could tell you all the things that would make a chipset not work, but I'm still shaking the cobwebs off and I'm afraid there's not much more I can do than ask you how you did it and see if you did something wrong. I'll try the chipsets out and see if I can get them to work (even though I'm going for amore futuristic look with the game I'm working on).

With the chipsets, I saved the images from the website to my RTP folders. At this point the images appeared outside of RPG Maker, but inside the program all the sets would be black. So for every single image that I downloaded, I opened both an original RTP image and one of the ones I downloaded and resaved under the new image's file name. Every so often I'd have to change the background colour in order to make sure no blocks of colour formed around the sprites. This worked for everything except the chipsets. I tried using tilesets, charsets and other chipsets in order to get them to work but they don't show up in game and are an invalid png type if I remember rightly.

I have the same problem...it's like if I don't use it for a few months and keep working and try to go back to it everything turns to shits. Oh well I'm starting a new project anyway.

The background colour on the chipsets: are there two different ones?  That can seriously mess the set up, or cause it to fail completely, or bring up an invalid png type message.

This always works for me.  I copy an RTP chipset, rename it to what i want. I then get the chipset i want and open it in paint and ctrl+c it all, then open the copied RTP set and ctrl+v the chipset i want onto that.  Then when i save it, everything's got the right formatting, however you occasionally will find that colours change a bit for that...but that's easily fixable or even just negligible.

Give that a shot if all else fails.

Brady I don't think you read my post. That's exactly what I said I did and it didn't work.
But it doesn't matter, I've given up already. I've spent hours on end trying to work it out and no one else seems to know so yeah...
