Question about switches and Chests (2k)

I know no one uses 2k anymore but I was wondering if anyone could help out with something. The game I'm working on is all about choices so I'm getting pretty good at using switches and fork conditions and what not but for some reason my ass is dragging on getting a lot of chests and things like that in one map. Is there a more simple way to do chests than have a switch for every one? I'm pretty sure there's some way to get all opened chests to just use the same "empty" isn't there? I don't want one chest to be empty because another one is but I don't want to have millions of switches for chests. I know I'm missing something and any help would be mucho good.

LOSER
Well surely if you understand variables there is a way to do it but that would take longer than making a switch. So switches are the way to go just name them specifically and you should be good.

I don't think it's like RPG Maker for the PS1 where you had treasure events as separate events that didn't need switches.

I'm pretty sure if RM2k3 doesn't have anything for treasure chest events besides using switches that 2k wouldn't.
You should get a second opinion on that, of course. ;)

I'm not really messing with variables all that much, in fact I haven't really tried much with them simply because I always forget to do it. I guess I'm stuck with tons of switches. That's kind of a drag since I plan on using a tons of them for other things. Isn't there a pretty low limit on switches in 2k?

Let's attack agressively.
the limit for switches in 2k (same in 2k3) is 5000, but is easier in my way but is only for monster
