I'm not sure it's possible, but:

Is there a way to add a class change window to the the game's main menu that allows/disallows changing to particular classes due to a requirement, such as a switch?  For example, I want to have classes in a tier system.  First tier will contain basic classes, whereas second tier will have more advanced ones and so on and so forth.  Each tier will be unlockable at a certain point in the game.

I'm currently doing something similar to this and I'm also in the process of redoing a small part of my Class Bonus script. Both are based on the Final Fantasy Tactics system. If that's what you're looking for, then just keep your eyes peeled. I hate giving myself deadlines but I might have a working demo within about 1-2 weeks.

Ophiuchus

It's KIND of like that.  It's more like the job system from FF3, where you can't access a set of jobs until you awaken their crystal or whatever.

Shinami

How many classes will you be using? What do you want the interface to look like? What information do you want displayed and where? Give me ideas and basic pictures on what you want this to look like. It shouldn't take me too long to finish this. It'll also give me time to think about how to layout another script that I'm working on.

Also, it was FF5 that used a job system. FF3 used Espers and each character had a unique skill. 8) I've played and beaten them all. ;D

Ophiuchus

I meant the FF3 for the DS, which was the FF3 not released in the US until now.  FF6 is the one with Espers if you go by that system, I think.

Hmm, well...A lot.  There's three tiers, and each are based off a Knight, Archer, Lancer, Brawler, Thief, Assassin, Fencer, Priest (Light mage), Cleric (healer), and then a mage for each of the elements, excluding light (fire, ice, lightning, water, earth, wind and shadow).  Oh, and there's the "Novice" that all characters start as.

I guess what I'd like is a segmented menu, where in one pane, preferably the right, you can see the character in question's stats and already-assigned-class, and another pane, the left, where the classes show in an ordered list, ordered by class grouping.

That's all I can think of.

Shinami

Will you be using character levels or class levels? More in depth though with the classes...I'm guessing something like this.

                         ->Knight->Lord Knight->Knight General
           ->Squire-|
           |             ->Crusader->Divine Knight->Heavenly Knight
Novice-|
           |                 |->Acolyte->Priest->High Priest
           ->Neophyte-|
           |                 |->Devote One->Prophet or Prophetess->Seer
           |
           |                           |->Black Mage-\
           ->Apprentice Mage-|                      |-Enlightened One->Sage
                                       |->White Mage-/

As you said, Novice being the starting class. Each character has a choice as which path they travel and even stereotype classes of warrior, mage, healer etc. aren't so well defined any more as each one would have several sub classes, each stronger than the last down along the line. Incase some of you are wondering, yes some of these names were influenced by playing a certain on-line MMO. Draw up a schematic in MS Paint or something on how you want the menu to look that way I have a definite concrete idea on how you want this to look.

To clear up some issues I think I've created, each tier of classes won't be grown into with levels.  They're unlocked at certain points in the storyline.  Here's all the classes sorted by tier:

Tier 1:
Squire (Knight path)
Spearman (Lancer path)
Thief (Thief path)
Hunter (Assassin path)
Healer (Cleric path)
Acolyte (Priest path)
Archer (Archer path)
Barbarian (Berserker path)
Pyro-,Glacial-,Electro-,Aqua-,Geo-,Aero-,Shadowmancer (Mages path)
Brawler (Brawler path)
Fencer (Fencer path)

Tier 2:
Knight
Lancer
Rogue
Assassin
Cleric
Priest
Marksman
Berserker
Scrapper
Duelist

Tier 3:
Lord
Dragoon
Shadowmaster
Eliminator
Saint
Bishop
Hawkeye
Ravager
Belligerent
Tempest

All of the mages are in the first tier, and have no second or third tier classes.

Shinami

How do you want the classes laid out? If you haven't already guessed, I gather a great deal of information to the point that it gets annoying to people because I want to make sure I get everything right from square 1 instead of square 10 or 12. I think I got it right...did I?

Also...do you want horizontal or vertical classes?

Horizontal:
Tier1--Tier2--Tier3

or Vertical:
Tier1
  |
Tier2
  |
Tier3

Ophiuchus

The window looks perfect, and I think I'd like them laid out horizontally.

I'm glad you gather so much info.  Saves everyone a lot of grief.

Shinami

Got ya. It'll be added to the list of things I'm doing then. Although, about 30 minutes ago I must have been struck in the head without knowing/feeling it. Why do I think that? Simple. Because 30 minutes I took on a request for a card battle system over at CA and I have no experience in that area. X_X Want to add [WIP] to the topic name so everyone knows the request is in the process of being taken care of? E-mail me a demo of your project that way I can tailor this script specifically to your project and THEN work out a function-able script to release to the public. The e-mail is shinami576@hotmail.com but since I have MSN on, you can just send it to me through MSN if you have it.

Wow, that looks pretty good. Would you mind doing a little customization to it for me when you finish it?
