This was all done in shorthand for RPG XP. The title is Willa & Rott. The game is done, I'm just testing it and padding it. The screenplay is 16 pages long, totalling about 16 minutes. With puzzles and random fights the game expands to about 30 minutes, and that is with me knowing whwere everything is.
ACT 1: SCENE 1
Screen is black.
NARRATOR:
The two of them once lived and played in a world of golden light.
NARRATOR:
All of the golden light from their world was sucked away.
Screen has a hard light.
Screen pans left over a wooded countryside.
ACT 1: SCENE 2
VOICE:
Help!
VOICE:
Somebody please help me!
VOICE:
Rott!
VOICE:
Go get someone Rott!
VOICE:
No Rott! You’ll die too!
Screen finds a young girl drowning.
Her dog is at the edge of the pier.
Her dog dives into the water to save her.
Her dog drowns with her!
The screen turns a hard purple.
NARRATOR:
No one wanted this young woman when she was a girl.
NARRATOR:
No one wanted this dog when he was a puppy.
NARRATOR:
That was their special place to be free from the cruelties of the world.
NARRATOR:
Her foot was stuck on a claw shaped root in the muck of a shallow area in the pond.
NARRATOR:
No one heard her screams but her faithful dog Rott.
NARRATOR:
The golden light of their world was pulled away from that point on.
The screen fades to black.
NARRATOR:
Because the two of them did not survive.
ACT 1 : SCENE 3
The screen is a hard purple as the screen pans left through an orphanage.
NARRATOR:
They still have each other to watch over each other.
NARRATOR:
Now they live on a different plane.
NARRATOR:
Their world is purple.
NARRATOR:
And the only one that can see them is a small boy named Toby.
A small boy named Walt is talking with a small girl named Grenn.
WALT:
<speaking to grenn>
He is talking to himself again! Listen!
The screen stops in an orphanage on the small boy named Toby.
TOBY:
You win again! Are you sure that you are not cheating?
TOBY:
Ha! You are so right! Let us play again!
TOBY:
This time I get to be black and you can be white!
TOBY:
Yeah you said it! You cannot possibly win four in a row!
TOBY:
<sets up a new game of chess>
TOBY:
<slides a black chess piece>
TOBY:

GRENN:
<speaking to walt>
Is he playing by himself again!
WALT:
The orphanage is packed with kids, but he is there playing by himself!
TOBY:
<laughs loudly at nothing>
WALT:
I am going to go see who he is playing with!
Walt walks over to Toby.
WALT:
Who you playing with Toby?
Grenn walks over to Walt and Toby.
GRENN:
Yeah you little creep who are you laughing at?
TOBY:
My friend.
GRENN:
You see anyone here Walt?
WALT:
Nope. No one here, but this future loser who is just playing by himself!
TOBY:
That is not true. I am playing with my friend.
GRENN:
Does this friend of yours have a name?
TOBY:
Her name is Willa.
WALT:
Oh got yourself a girlfriend already? I would have thought you would have a boyfriend!
GRENN:
<laughs>
That is probably true!
GRENN:
How can you tell if it is a boy or a girl when they are invisible?
TOBY:
She is not invisible!
GRENN:
Oh come on little creep! If I cannot see her and Walt cannot...
GRENN:
Then that means it is all in your head!
TOBY:
I can see her! She is right behind you now Grenn!
Grenn turns around.
GRENN:
Where?
Grenn turns back around.
GRENN:
No one is there head case!
Lightning flashes, Willa and Rott are standing behind Grenn for a brief second.
TOBY:
She is going to get mad! She does terrible things when she is mad!
WALT:
Oh no! Better not scare him!
WALT:
You know what happens when she gets mad right?
GRENN:
I want to find out, because Toby knows what happens when I get mad!
TOBY:
Why do you two always pick on me?
GRENN:
Cause you are a little psycho!
TOBY:
Am not!
WALT:
Are too! There is no chance you are getting adopted little freak!
GRENN:
That invisible friend is all you will have left.
GRENN:
When the rest of us are adopted and you are still here!
TOBY:
No Willa!
The sound of something smashing!
WALT:
What was that?
GRENN:
Yeah what was that?
The headmistress appears at the staircase!
HEADMISTRESS:
What have you little devils done now?
HEADMISTRESS:
What is all this ruckus up here?
The headmistress stops at a picture frame that shattered.
HEADMISTRESS:
<looks at the mess and yells>
Who did this?
Headmistress runs to the children.
HEADMISTRESS:
Tell me who broke this!
GRENN:
<points at toby>
He did!
Walt and Grenn step aside from Toby.
WALT:
Yeah Toby broke it!
TOBY:
No I did not!
HEADMISTRESS:
Fine. Toby then who broke that picture?
TOBY:
Willa did! They made her angry!
HEADMISTRESS:
Willa? How did you hear that name?
HEADMISTRESS:
Never say that name again! Do you hear me?
TOBY:
But.
HEADMISTRESS:
No Toby. Never ever say that cursed name again or she will come and eat your brain!
TOBY:
Okay Headmistress.
HEADMISTRESS:
You three heathens had best be on good behavior when Mister Macovius arrives!
TOBY:
Mister who?
HEADMISTRESS:
Mister Macovius! He has sent word he will be here shortly!
Headmistress turns around.
HEADMISTRESS:
With any luck and showing him some manors one of you children will be adopted!
GRENN:
<whispers>
Will not be Toby.
TOBY:
Hey!
Headmistress turns back to Toby.
HEADMISTRESS:
I have had just about enough out of you Toby!
TOBY:
She said.
HEADMISTRESS:
I do not care! You are trying my patience today!
HEADMISTRESS:
And my pocketbook for this destruction you have caused here just now!
HEADMISTRESS:
Do not test my heart of gold young Toby.
HEADMISTRESS:
If it was not for my orphanage the lot of you would be in the rain.
HEADMISTRESS:
Begging for change enough to eat! Do I make myself clear!
TOBY:
Yes headmistress.
Headmistress turns around to walk away.
HEADMISTRESS:
The whole lot of you would be dead just like that play heart Willa.
Headmistress disappears down the stairs.
Fade screen to black.
GRENN:
<tells toby>
Future loser.
ACT 1 : SCENE 4
Screen fades into the orphanage once again.
All of the children are at their beds.
HEADMISTRESS:
<calls upstairs>
Are all children ready for inspection?
ORPHANS:
<call out>
Yes headmistress!
Headmistress comes up the stairs.
HEADMISTRESS:
Good, good. Good Children!
Macovius follows her up the stairs.
HEADMISTRESS:
And these are the lovely children of my orphanage.
HEADMISTRESS:
Children I call for your attention please!
HEADMISTRESS:
I introduce to you Mister Macovius!
MACOVIUS:
Hello.
MACOVIUS:
Chill-dren.
HEADMISTRESS:
Mister Macovius has been gracious enough to visit our orphanage!
HEADMISTRESS:
He has honorable intension of adopting one of you!
MACOVIUS:
As sss-oon as possible. I do prefer that.
HEADMISTRESS:
There are indeed papers that must be filled out.
MACOVIUS:
In time; In due time headmistress.
Macovius walks around and inspects the children one at a time.
MACOVIUS:
All fine chill-dren.
Macovius finishes inspecting the children and joins the headmistress.
HEADMISTRESS:
Well? Have you taken a liking to any of the children Mister Macovius?
MACOVIUS:
Well...
MACOVIUS:
<whispers to the headmistress>
No.
MACOVIUS:
No dear I have not taken a la-. A la. A liking to any of them.
MACOVIUS:
<sneezes>

TOBY:
God bless you Mister Macovius.
MACOVIUS:

TOBY:

Macovius goes to Toby immediately.
MACOVIUS:

TOBY:

TOBY:
I do not think there was anything before that.
MACOVIUS:

TOBY:
Bless you. That is all that I can recall Mister Macovius.
There is a pause.
TOBY:
No. Now I remember. God bless you Mister Macovius.
MACOVIUS:
God? Ah the thoughts of a child.
MACOVIUS:
Headmistress! I have made my choice!
Headmistress walks over to Macovius.
MACOVIUS:
What is your name chi. Chi-ill-ed.
TOBY:
My name is Toby Sir.
HEADMISTRESS:
<laughs a bit>
Toby? You chose Toby?
MACOVIUS:
What-ever his name. I like this.
MACOVIUS:

<sneeze>
TOBY:
God bless you Mister Macovius.
MACOVIUS:
Yes. God indeed.
HEADMISTRESS:
If I may recommend two children. Walt and Grenn are two good natured children.
MACOVIUS:
My mind is made up headmistress!
MACOVIUS:

MACOVIUS:
This boy will be mine to take home!
HEADMISTRESS:
Mister Macovius. Please. All of these children have a shot at being mature adults.
HEADMISTRESS:
But Toby. Toby is a dreamer. A fiddler. A day dreamer.
HEADMISTRESS:

MACOVIUS:
Ya-ess?
HEADMISTRESS:

This boy Toby is undesirable.
MACOVIUS:

HEADMISTRESS:

MACOVIUS:

MACOVIUS:

HEADMISTRESS:

MACOVIUS:
This boy. I shall take him! How soon can you draw up the paperwork?

HEADMISTRESS:
Yes Toby. Mister Macovius is an inventor! He is worth millions in gold!
WALT:

HEADMISTRESS:

GRENN:

This child will be mine tonight!

The screen fades to black.
MACOVIUS:
<whispers>

All of the contents are burnable.
ACT 2 : SCENE 1
The scene opens on a dark and stormy forest.
The screen pans through the forest to a tombstone.
A cleric named Percy walks through the forest to get to the tombstone.
When the cleric reaches the tombstone the screen stops.
PERCY:
And now I wait.
A brief moment passes by.
Lightning happens, the rumbles. The screen shakes.
Willa appears from a beam of darkness in front of her grave.
Willa is down on the ground.
PERCY:
My premonition was true! Absolutely true!
PERCY:
The dead has risen!
WILLA:
<gasps for air>
PERCY:
She is still weakened from her journey through the afterlife.
PERCY:
She is reborn at my waiting feet!
WILLA:
<gasps for air>
She is Willa and she is very pissed off.
PERCY:
She speaks! Yes Willa! I recall speaking at your funeral!
WILLA:
<gasps for air>
I remember you.
WILLA:
You called me a play heart and said I would not have died if it was not for my mutt.
WILLA:
<gasps for air>
Why are you here?
PERCY:
The lord bestowed a grand vision upon me! He called upon me to meet you here!
WILLA:
<calms her breath>
Why?
PERCY:
I am here to send you back to the Hell you escaped from little girl!
Willa stands.
WILLA:
Not yet.
WILLA:
I have work to do.
PERCY:
You will be unable to complete your work and the foul stench of death is upon you!
Willa vs Percy
During the fight:
WILLA:
I am so weak right now.
PERCY:
If you would have said your prayers at night you would not have gone to Hell!
WILLA:
Prayers will not save you from Hell. Everyone goes there.
WILLA:
It is an incentive to stay alive.
PERCY:
Keep that wicked tongue in your mouth! I shall teach you your first lesson child!
Willa loses the fight.
Willa is down on the ground.
PERCY:
Now I ask the lord to give me the strength!
PERCY:
The strength to give this undead girl back to where she came!
Rott runs and mauls Percy!
Rott vs Percy
Rott defeats Percy!
PERCY:
Lord I have failed you!
WILLA:
And you will find no matter how many prayers you say. It cannot keep you from Hell!
Rott mauls Percy and slashes him to death.
PERCY:
<lies dead>
WILLA:
<eats the flesh of Percy>
WILLA:
I can feel my strength coming back.
WILLA:
Thank you Rott. If it was not for you, I would have been sent back!
WILLA:
And what happened to you?
WILLA:
I do not remember you having three heads before!
WILLA:

WILLA:
All of my questions will have to wait. We need to get to the orphanage to save Toby!
The two travel through the stormy forest.
ACT 3 : SCENE 1
The two travel to the orphanage.
Willa opens the door to the orphanage with a creek.
It is night. The place is dark. There is a sprite there!
DREAM SPRITE:
Willa? It has been ages!
WILLA:
What are you?
DREAM SPRITE:
Wings, small body, blue hair. Does any of this ring a bell to you dear?
WILLA:
I don’t hear any ringing. Do you Rott?
DREAM SPRITE:
You’ll never hear a peep out of me or my sisters!
DREAM SPRITE:
I am a dream sprite.
DREAM SPRITE:
My sisters and I go unseen at night to give dreams and bestow nightmares.
WILLA:
We’re on a schedule here.
DREAM SPRITE:
I can be your best friend...
DREAM SPRITE:
Or your worst nightmare!
DREAM SPRITE:
And you Willa! I remember your nightmares so vividly!
DREAM SPRITE:

DREAM SPRITE:

Willa goes upstairs to find all of the children asleep!
The headmistress is asleep. Two children are awake. Grenn and Walt!
Willa sneaks up behind them both!
WALT:
I cannot believe Toby was taken tonight.
GRENN:
Yeah why would that guy take him over one of us?
WALT:
Weird kid, weird guy; It makes sense.
GRENN:
Do you hear something?
WILLA:
Shhhh.
Walt and Grenn turn around shocked!
WALT and GRENN:
<try to scream>
<but willa covers their mouths>
WILLA:
Where is Toby?
TALT:
Some weird guy named Macovius took him!
WILLA:
Where does he live?
GRENN:
Do either of us look like a map?
WILLA:
Hush up.
WALT:
He left not long ago. He came here late! You can catch up to him maybe.
GRENN:
Who the heck are you?
WILLA:
If you are going to swear, at least call it Hell.
WILLA:
You know my name. I am the invisible friend of Toby’s.
WILLA:
Only I am not so invisible now am I?
GRENN and WALT:
<scream!>
Headmistress awakens and goes to the children.
Willa and Rott hide, and walk their way around to avoid the Headmistress.
Willa and Rott go down the stairs.
HEADMISTRESS:
I cannot get a moment’s peace around here I swear!
HEADMISTRESS:
Back to sleep the both of you, before I beat you with the rope out back!
Grenn and Walt get back into bed.
The screen fades to black.
ACT 3: SCENE 3
Willa and Rott exit the orphanage into a dark town.
It is still stormy.
In the center of town is Macovius with Toby!
Willa and Rott follow Macovius, until Macovius notices something.
MACOVIUS:
We are being followed chi-uld.
MACOVIUS:
<sneezes>
Ah-Chu!
MACOVIUS:
Bloody rain!
TOBY:
It is wet rain Sir.
MACOVIUS:
Huh? What?
TOBY:
The rain is wet not bloody Sir.
MACOVIUS:
Oh. Quiet boy; we must get away from our pursuers.
Macovius and Toby outrun Willa and Rott. They disappear!
Willa and Rott come to another center of town with too many paths to follow!
WILLA:
Damn it! We lost him Rott.
WILLA:
I would have you sniff out his train, but in this rain, the scent is as dead as I am.
A woman and a man happen upon Willa.
WOMAN:
What is that?
MAN:
It looks like a three headed dog!
WOMAN and MAN:
<scream!>
MAN:
<screams>
Zombie!
WOMAN:
<screams>
She is hideous!
The woman and man run away from Willa and Rott!
WILLA:
You are not so good looking yourself.
WILLA:
We need to find out where Macovius went to!
WILLA:
Rott we need to split up. If you find where they went come back and tell me.
WILLA:
And if I find them. I will take on Macovius myself.
WILLA:
There is not much time to stop him before he sacrifices Toby.
Willa and Rott wander through town trying to find Macovius.
Everyone that Willa and Rott encounter are terrified and run away!
ACT 3 : SCENE 4
Willa comes upon one man that does not run away.
CHRISTIAN:
My name is Christian Vail!
WILLA:
Finally someone that does not run away from us!
CHRISTIAN:
There is a reason why I do not shy away from you.
WILLA:
Oh yeah? Why is that?
CHRISTIAN:
I have been searching for you!
WILLA:
What for? No one should know that I’m back!
CHRISTIAN:
Because my dear. I am a zombie slayer!
CHRISTIAN:
And if you have not noticed you are back from the dead.
WILLA:
Hey now. I’m only back for one purpose.
CHRISTIAN:
Oh and the only thing that I have seen you doing is terrifying these poor people!
CHRISTIAN:
You invaded an orphanage even!
WILLA:
It is not like that! I’m just...
CHRISTIAN:
Just what? There to eat small children?
CHRISTIAN:
Well I tell you zombie, that while they may be undesirable, they are not food for you!
CHRISTIAN:

CHRISTIAN:

WILLA:

WILLA:
I’m just back to make sure that a boy is not killed by a wizard named Macovius.
CHRISTIAN:
Macovius is a well respected inventor here! Well respected and wealthy.
CHRISTIAN:

Rott appears from behind Chrstian.
Rott runs and lunges at Christian!

CHRISTIAN:

Christian runs off into the night.
WILLA:

Rott runs off. Turns and has Willa follow him!
WILLA:
Did you find the scent?
WILLA:
Good boy! Good Rott!
The screen fades to black with Willa following Rott.
ACT 4 : SCENE 1
Rott guides Willa to a dark and spooky castle.
WILLA:
Wow how did I miss this giant castle before?
WILLA:
It is such a secure sanctuary!
WILLA:
If I was not dead already I would be afraid I would die in a place like this!
WILLA:
You first Rott!
ACT 4 : SCENE 2
Willa and Rott come upon a bottle neck of four tall stone pillars!
Two dream sprites appear from behind the two pillars in front of them.
DREAM SPRITE:
Willa!
DREAM SPRITE:
And her mutt too!
WILLA:
What are you doing here?
DREAM SPRITE:
Besides getting fashionably drenched by this rain you brought with you?
DREAM SPRITE:
We’re here, because you witnessed us earlier at the orphanage!
WILLA:
I’m just here to do one thing, and then I’m leaving!
DREAM SPRITE:
Sorry Willa! As long as you’re walking and able to speak you can tell others!
WILLA:
Who would believe me if I told them that sprites grant their dreams?
DREAM SPRITE:
Who would believe a dead girl isn’t here to cause anything but a muck?
WILLA:

DREAMER:
We’re going to fuck you up.

Willa and Rott enter the mouth of the castle.

After Willa and Rott have fought their way through the castle and completed puzzles.
WILLA:
<says quietly>

ROTT:

The screen pans up.
They find the Dark Wizard Macovius as he chants a spell.
Toby is next to him.
MACOVIUS:
Contain this child oh powers of the darkness so that I may summon your master!
A bubble appears to contain Toby!
TOBY:
<tries to speak>
MACOVIUS:
Silence child! Children should be seen and not heard!
MACOVIUS:
Besides that, I cannot hear you anyway.
Macovius walks to an alter to summon Macabre!
MACOVIUS:
A word to the wise chi-.
MACOVIUS:

<sneezes>
Ah-chu!
MACOVIUS:
That magical bubble is air tight. You may want to hold your breath!
MACOVIUS:

Willa and Rott enter the screen from the south!
WILLA:

Great Macabre! I summon thee to do my bidding on this planet!
MACOVIUS:
Macabre will do my bidding and enter through this gate in exchange for a life!
MACOVIUS:

MACOVIUS:
<composes himself>
Bubble! That will be the life exchanged for Macabre’s loyalty!
WILLA:
Macabre is loyal to no one!
MACOVIUS:
<waves arms>
Silence!
Willa is silenced with mute!
MACOVIUS:
In this pale full moon outside! On this stormy night!
MACOVIUS:
Macabre will be mine to command!
MACOVIUS:
And no one can stop me!
Rott runs and attacks Macovius!
Rott and Willa vs Macovius! Willa is still silenced!
MACOVIUS:
You have a mere ten minutes before the chi-uld’s life expires!
MACOVIUS:
Ten minutes until a life is exchanged to bring about Macabre!

Screen fades from white to a bright light.
CHRISTIAN:
It is now your turn to die zombie!
WILLA:
I’m already dead, but our duty is done here!
WILLA:
As we told you. Rott and I were sent to guard over Toby!
WILLA:
I am his guardian angel, and now that Toby is safe from mortal danger; We must go.
CHRISTIAN:
Toby must be the boy that I saw with your beast moments ago!
WILLA:
Yes that is Toby and now we really must go. We have overstayed our welcome.
WILLA:
If we do not return, it will disrupt the harmony of things.
CHRISTIAN:
Then go! But make sure I do not see you tread foot on this soil again!
CHRISTIAN:
You will surely be at my blade again!
WILLA:
Before I agree to that, promise to look after Toby.
CHRISTIAN:
Surely his parents can do that job.
WILLA:
He is an orphan just as I was.
WILLA:
He has no one else in this world to look after him.
WILLA:
Just as I had no one looking after me when I drown in a lake years ago.
CHRISTIAN:
