A) Chances of world ending = Very little...no matter what comes our way...while we are still on the planet we will eliminate the problem...that is what nukes were invented for.

Therefore the Chances of the world ending are nil because we are here. However...we are likely to nuke each other, and the chances of Humanity ending are a little higher than the world ending...and even that has a small chance.

As for the bible...*twitch*

Chances of someone accurately predicting the worlds events...yeah...Nostradameus (sp) and the doomsday book was accurately predicted and even mentioned an actual village (that I live in) and the facts about that were true too (don't ask me what they were I just know they are). Coalville is the place.

So yeah he predicted far more than anyone else...his major one, was that the world was going to end...and it was false. Then again, depends on what he meant by the world ending, it could have been a mis-translation. Wasn't he on Opium?

Yeah, as for the *twitch*...I'm not a fan of the new testament...it's erm...a book of stories! The only testament that has some sort of truth to it (in my eyes) is the old testament...and that's because I enjoyed reading the whole lot...especially Genesis. That was fun.

I thought i'd put my two cents in, but I hope I don't cause any offence, I'm Pagan (sort of) so I do believe in er...higher powers of sorts as well...until the day comes when each belief is proven wrong. I don't see why you should believe religion when clearly Science states otherwise. God made the earth...and the scientist within me yells: Prove it...and I have to agree, there is more proof that the old earth collided with a new planet to form the current one than there is of God creating the world and humanity from Adam and Eve...unless...they were...monkeys...XD

Not trying to criticize beliefs...it's just a little hard to understand from a scientists point of view. (Same goes for every other religious text).

So here's my braincell worth of info...I think that's the last one I had...

That was one of the dumbest things I have read in a long time.  Most of the reasons the world would end are completely out of our control, and a nuke would not help... You seem to think people have a firm grasp on our planet, and have control over what goes on.  You are wrong, we are just along for the ride.

Erm...dumbest...most likely. However, it's the most grounded. I never said nukes would help...they just dispose of problems, and if they don't dispose of them, we invent something that will. That was why the nuke was invented...to get rid of a problem that nothing else could do...as efficiently at least.

We have every control of what goes on. We cut down all the trees: We die and the planet increases in global warming 20x at least. Desertification occurs and voila dead planet.

We plant tree: Planet produces more Oxygen, recycles more Carbon Dioxide, planet gets colder, yeah...but more enriched with oxygen.

We over fish: Animals die, predators find a lack of food source, they die of starvation (or eat each other)...empty oceans (Eventually...)

We control our fishing: ...do you really want me to go on, on how much control we actually have.

We are the most intelligent species on our planet and have the ability to evolve without end. We just need to know one thing: How.

The only way our planet will die, is if we are stupid enough to A) let it, or B) wait for

499,999,999,999 years for the sun to explode (or around about that number...so scientists predict at least)

-------------------------

One way a nuke does help however: Eradicates population = More space...even if it's irradiated. Animals around Chenobyl don't seem to care about the radiation.

So yeah, next time you want to just call me dumb, come up with some evidence as to why and why we do not have a firm control over our planet. I dare you in the name of science. Prove me wrong.

Well, aside from the numerous meteors that are hurtling in our planets direction right now, the fact that there will be a major pole shift december 21, 2012, and the fact that greenhouse effect will melt the polar icecaps if not fully stopped in the next XX years, flooding most of the earth, the supervolcanoes that can spring up at any time, and the moving plates that crash violently into eachother, yeah, we are in complete control.  (OVERUSE OF COMMAS) ::)

The pole shift isn't going to kill anyone. The only thing that is going to happen, is there will begin to be hotspots of reversed polarity around the earth before it flips. This MAY, (and I use may lightly,) cause a bit more cases of cancer, and a faw cell phones and computers to go out of whack before it's over. Do some research on the subject. It's one of the most interesting things i've ever read about. It is actually not a rare occurrence.

Yeah. If I'm not wrong pole shifting happens how often? Was it every 10000 years or every 30000 years?

I don't remember exactly, but there is lava rock that some scientists tested, and it kept changing polarity the farther inland they tested. Pretty neat stuff.

every 28 000 years a cataclysmic(sp?) pole shift happens, and the north and south pole re-align in roughly 1 week,  for that 4-7 days, it is basically hell on earth as the first poles melt, flooding the oceans, the plates re-align, causing unwater earthquakes that bring 3 mile waves to shore, hurricanes, tornadoes and basically all manner of terrible natural disasters happen, including volcanoes coming up almost instantly from the newly made fault lines.  After this apocolyptic nightmare, I doubt anyone will be left alive.

That's not what happens. Lol, for thinking that though. Do a little reading, and don't play so many video games.

Yeah from what I remember on the subject Holk is right, it won't be anything along the lines of Armageddon but it will have some short term negative effects. The benefits are quite interesting as well, some feel the reason why life hasn't evolved to the size of the dinosaurs was because of the pole shift that happened after their extinction.

We are currently in a lower magnetic state, being introduced to a higher one could definitely have benefits.

Well, I guess we'll see who is right.  2012, december 21.  Precession of the Equinox.  I'm talking about the Mayan prophecies, and the six suns and all that.

Numerous Meteors...do you really think the Chinese and American governments will let any major ones destroy us? We'll crush them.

Greenhouse effect...is actually NATURAL...us speeding it up isn't gonna do much. We're over due for an ice age already, and the Green House effect will only speed it up. Check the gulf stream and what not, it will shut down once the temperature gets so high, and then the temperatures will plummet. Who cares if the world floods....we'll just either do what the dutch did, or build underwater or underground, or on the water.

Super volcanoes - likelyness of one coming up = 0...or there abouts. Stop watching Hollywood movies is my advice. We'll just deal with them as they come, we're building bigger and better machines, huge explosions will do most of the work for us, cutting paths for the lava to reach the oceans.

The moving plates that crash into each other. Tectonic Plates you mean...yeah...go have a look at the Japanese and how they ride through most of the earthquakes. The San Andrea's was unfortunate, and so was the Tsunami, pity about that, wouldn't have been so much damage if it wasn't for the tourists. *shrug* But even that we can deal with. Erect huge walls, explosions to disrupt the Tsunami and break it. There are numerous things we can do in this day and age.

Sure they might not be in our control, but we've adapted so that they can no longer affect us as such. Sure it was the most damaging disaster on record, however, the damage was made worse by cutting down the mangroves. That was our fault...we cut them down.

But the Magnetic Polarity....I pity the people with pace makers...XD.

But if all that did happen at once Bio, half of it would negate the other. Therefore making it ineffective.

To me, school is almost useless. Because the books there are not interesting, and the subjects are too easy except math. Darn math.
But I have courses so what?
Except that school give me friends. Now that's kind of useful.
So... Schools, here, is USELESS to people, because everything you learn in schools HERE is education for Civil Officers.
Except if that's a GOOD, TOP school.
My school is starting to turn to TOP but I still think it's useless because I have courses.
Yet my parents insisted to keep me in school.
I guess, to increase my social network.

I read a few things, seen some tv shows on discovery, and have been told by a few proffesors at my collage that a lot of the astroids flying around out there are a lot softer than we had originally thought. If we were somehow able to blow a planet-killer sized one up into little pieces, the dmmage to Earth would actually be worst because now all that mass is spread out over a larger area. All the tricks for using nucks to divert an astroid on a collision couse with earth won't work either because a soft astriod would just absorb the blast wave.

Greanhouse effect is, as I believe after doing some reasurce and talking with my proffesors, mostly natural. Valcanos through out a lot more greenhouse gasses than most people realize. However, things we do do have an impact and as you said, things we do speeding up the process is a problem. If the climate changes rapidly in 50 or 100 years vs changing slowly over a few hundred years will make a difference.

If plants and animals don't have time to adjust to a changing climate, we will start having mass extinctions which will effect the whole food chain including us.

There are a few things that have raised a few eyebrows though. Like tempratures on Mars also reaching recored highs since we have recorded them (which admitily is not long) sudgesting that the sun may be a facter in our warming trend.

Anouther curious blip is Antartcia (according to my geology prof) that has had record cold winters the last three years and ocean temps have also been reaching record lows the past few years.

On supervalcanos, there is one under Yellowstone that is due for an eruption, but is could be 100 years or tomarrow, no one can predict. The data on past eruptions is really intesting though. If it were to erupt, the biggest problem would be people having to evacuate. I don;t think the ash cloud would block out the sun for too long and it would mostly effect to US, I think. I'm not too sure on that part. And cutting a path to the ocean for lava to flow out ouf Yellowstone is out of the question. It is too far inland for that.
I apologize in advance for all spelling errors...
