School itself, as bothersome as it is, familiarizes you with your peer group and helps you acquire social skills in the most crucial developmental years of your life. I mean, even the retards make friends in special ed.

I do think more time and funding should go into the arts, but I'd say math is more important. Even if you "don't need it" it still teaches you to think abstractly constructively, apply the correct solution to problems, use logic etc., which is more important, in my opinion, than learning the difference between Van Gogh and Picasso and silly, frivolous things like that.

Learning doesn't make you a nerd. What makes you a nerd is memorizing. People who really learn, DO understand what they are learning. It's harder, but much more effective. When you understand something you can "restore" the knowledge others just memorized without any problems, any time.

Yeah, I think school is useless, but only after a certain point.  I don't think I have learned anything usefull I will ever need in math in the last 4 years, and the only career I can see needing to know that math is if I were to be a math teacher!  I think school needs to be much harder, focusing less on how hard a person tries, and more on how smart they actually are.

If you don't care about anything, then I don't think you'll get too far in life. I tell you by experience. I have a brother that only cares for an online game, and in return, his life is being tore apart, ruined, trashed.

I don't call it a depression, I call it freedom.  Freedom from living within the shallow world you call life, where you are just trotted off to you death.  You seem to think that doing something with your life will impact people?  It won't.  I don't think that humanity as a whole is very meaningfull.  We are pretty meaningless, and I don't expect us to last much longer.

You don't live for others. I think you live for yourself. And learning and doing something good is a way to make life more pleasant, rather than living in a void, doing nothing, feeling nothing.

What you do with your life is up to you. Just make sure that you don't regret it. I believe there is just one life to live, and that we must not waste the time we were given. And if we have some power, some skill or talent, we should use it.

But then again, this is my opinion, which may differ from yours.

It may be a cruel thing to say, but I always thought vocational classes in highschool, the ones that taught skills instead of fundamental knowledge, were for people that lacked the mental capacity to become intelligent, well-rounded people.

But some people are like that, and for those people vocational classes in highschool are a god-send. They're not smart enough to work on wall street and they know it, or they know they don't want to try that hard, so they instead concentrate on something they enjoy, like working on cars, and some highschools offer voteck classes for that.

So no, highschool isn't useless at all. Even on a social level.

As for me, I'd like to get more than a high school education. I'm not going to be one of those people that drop out and say Life Sucks. I can't afford that, and I wouldn't even THINK about it. I want to be proud of what I've been able to overcome and not live a life with too much regret. And I feel that the first step to living that way would be getting through school. So to me, school is not useless.

I never call my teachers bitches...  Well, maybe some of them.  I try and acheive a 75% average, I could probably achieve much more, but I don't feel compelled to.  Worlds gonna end in 2012 anyway, whats the point.

it isn't useless it depends if the student is willing to learn. The more effort you put into your work the better grades you can achieve but if you make no effort then yes school is useless to you.

I think its not "can everyone achieve good grades" but more, are good grades important, and rather, does school help you achieve them.
